I recently made some changes in my camera bag. I got rid of and lost some things and replaced with other things. I really can't afford to upgrade without selling the old stuff.
Since I shot images that are in my profile with the older equipment, should I keep it in my profile? It seems kinda goofy to see so much stuff when I don't use it anymore ... however, as a learning site, people might want to ask me about things I no longer have.
What do you think? |

I leave mine listed. You might make a note in the bio section as to which items you no longer have. |

I took a trip to canada once. I no longer own the car that took me there, the camera I used for pics, the clothes I wore and I don't even date the same girl.
The trip happened. I remember it. The images are in my photo album.
So why would I delete pics just because they were taken with gear I no longer own?

I've got stuff in my portfolio that was shot on this stuff called 'film'. Interesting, you could only get 24 - 36 images per cartridge loaded into the camera. ;oP

I think metatate is wondering whether other people continue to include equipment that they no longer own in their equipment list, not necessarily photos shot with that equipment. In fact, it seems like the point of keeping the equipment there is to list it on the photos that were made with it (so others can learn about how one's photos were created).
I don't have the G3 anymore, but I keep it in the list specifically so that it will still show up on the photos that I took with it. |

When you delete old equipment, does that change the Image information in pictures in your portfolio. For some reason I thought it does, because I deleted a lens a while back to replace it with the correct one, and I seem to recall that might have changed the lens information in all the images previously listed as shot with that lens (i.e., it went from shot with lens X to no lens listed). Anyone know if that's right? That's the only reason I've left some of my equipment up that I no longer use.

I was just saying that maybe I should keep the equipment in the list BECAUSE I had images that had the D70 listed for example. I don't want to delete images. Sorry for confusion.

I say add equipment that you don't even own. It looks really cool. :P |

i thought this might be the case too. But it doesn't seem like it should be that way.
I suppose I could test it rather than just adding a post ... here goes! ;P

OK - I just did a quick test and the lens remains on the image after it is deleted from the profile (this wasn't completely scientific but it appears that you can delete profile equipment without losing it on the image). |

Craigslist just had a Hubble prototype for the low, low price of $1000.00. Unfortunately the seller just moved to England. :( |

I've been on both sides of this issue and as I shoot with a 1D MKIII, a 5D, a 30D, a 20D, a 350D and a dozen lenses ranging from a 16-35L f/2.8 to a 400mm f/2.8L, it makes it hard to add the data to images when it's not in my equipment listing. I've added to the Bio section that I don't own all that gear but is it, but still is misleading cuz' people don't read. So for now, I yanked it all except for what I am
<----- currently using ------ |

The only equipment I have in my profile is stuff i currently own. Stuff I can use to shoot an image with today or tomorrow. It in some ways lets people know what I shoot with if they check my profile o rhave a question about something I own.
I once had a 50 1.8 and several tamron lense and the images shot and tagged with those lenses still show up as having been shot with the proper lens. Remember, computers never forget.

When I change equipment, as soon as I no longer own it, I delete it from the list. I use the list for current equipment as I believe this is the purpose of the list? |

Not much point having equipment you don't/can't use in there.

I started off here with a cheap p&s, upgraded to a higher-end p&s, and finally went DSLR. But I still list those two p&s's, as I still have the high-end one, just to remind myself of my humble origins.
However, if you have a bazillion lenses etc, maybe best to winnow it down a bit. |

I think the primary purpose is to tag uploaded files made with old or new equipment, it's a pain to go back to preferences just to tag an old file. It would nice to be able to selectively hide equipment one does not actively use. |

If you figure it out, have the meta you tell me how.
