Pick a prime lens. Or if you have a zoom lens, invest in some duct tape and tape the zoom ring down to a focal length.

Shoot everything in that month with that lens at that focal length. No switching it out. Learn to love it. Learn to make do. Learn to make it work. Learn that the best zoom you've got is at the bottom of your legs.

This is a great idea. I did an outing with the local camera club where everyone had to pick a focal length and stick to it for the entire outing.

Count me in.

Another site I belong to does this using a particular prime lens for a month.

Hands down, I pick my 50mm 1.7! :-)

Gordon, I generally only get to shoot on the weekends, but I promise to take my new prime out to play more often. I do need to learn to use it and see what it can do.

I'll play... using my new best friend.

Was thinking the other day doing just that with my 50mm 1.8 :D

I love this idea. But since I shoot about 80% of my shots with my pretty baby right here, I should probably pick a different one of my primes to play with.

I need to get one of those 1.8's. Sounds like a great value and the lens of choice for indoor photos.

I might give it a go, going back to work in a few weeks, got a bit of free time still.

hehe... i'm in the macro challenge this month, so most everything will be taken with my tamron 90mm.

of course, a lot of shots will also include a 30mm or 50mm reverse mounted, so i'm guessing those don't count? hehe.

might be interesting to try nothing but the 30mm for a month, though...

I found that after a few months I got to the point where I'd just know what the scene would look like when I brought the camera up to my eye - I could look and see what the framing would be, without having to look through the lens. Course that was with an 85mm - anything wider than an effective 50 and you can't 'see' it that way.

If you jump around between lenses or use a zoom, you don't tend to get that affinity developing.

Do I get to keep my crop?...;-)

Just out of curiousity...how many MM is the Blackberry curve...or is that a zoom?...;-)

Did this ever get set up as an "official" side challenge? I was thinking of doing this for a month with my Lensbaby 2.0, that I bought a while back but haven't really gotten to know yet.

Anybody up for this for June? My work is going to be pretty demanding that month, but I'm sure I can squeak out a picture on most days.

I'd join with my 100mm lens.

50mm 1.4 usm I'm in.

Cool! Hmm . . . not the OP, so not sure how to go about this. Maybe I need to start a new thread.

I'm hoping to go to an airshow tomorrow that's held over the Thames Estuary. Should I take my fisheye lens and walk across the water to get nearer to the 'planes?

Sorry, shouldn't be so sarcastic.
