another good wildflower option this year looks to be Death Valley for something pretty rare and unusual. Maybe not quite as insane as 2005 but it is heading towards those levels.

Vasquez Rocks is very close to the Poppy Reserve and you all might enjoy a few hours there as well.

Hi Guys,
I think I might be making it up there this year for the first time in 10 years...
Had fun back in Death Valley a couple of years ago...

There's an update on the Poppy Preserve's Site! It looks like the poppies are starting to pop sporadically. They think that a week to two weeks from now will be great! I think we picked the perfect weekend! I am so excited!

Unfortunately by the time I went back through the fields on Sunday it was 8:00 so I could not see anything... I did take some pictures on my way (in a car window). I'll upload later... |

I'll keep an eye on it, but if it doesn't look so good, we can always relocate to Orange County:

Shutterhack, do you have any suggestions if we have to move the site to OC? I hope the poppies will pop, but we'll see what happens over the next week and a half.

It still seems possible (and likely) that the end of March will yield a lot of wildflowers, including poppies. Lake Elsinore is a place that I hear is in bloom right now. I wish I could find out where to go and get down there this weekend, but it's just not possible.
Anyone go to Lake Elsinore yet? Do you have photos/locations?

The AVPP updated their photos and message! They said that next weekend (when we are going) should be great!!! Maybe not as great as when we went in 2005, but great nonetheless. I am hoping we'll have plenty to shoot and enjoy! I just hope it's not windy. Let's start sending happy messages to the wind gods, asking them for a peaceful day! :) heehee

I'm incredibly envious. I lived in the Lancaster area (Edwards AFB) for four years but it was before I'd taken up photography again. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures from this get-together! |

Did we decide on a time for this outing? Let's set an approximate time to meet there. There may be a group from POTN (see this thread on POTN) going as well!

Sorry, I am not going to be able to make this GTG.
I am working, and I also have baseball duties for the league.

2 days away and I am getting excited. I was looking at the weather, and looks like we are going to get partial clouds with a high of 66. In the morning it will probably be around 47.
I have not been to the hills, but looking around the valley I am seeing orange around the rest of the valley. |
