Today I have seen several user icons that are simple blue silhoettes, with no details. What is this about?

Cheers,
Drew

I've seen them too, but I haven't seen those.. half boy, half girl ones anymore. Maybe if they don't specify gender, they get the generic one, now? Before they were half guy, half girl. hehe

But I don't know for sure!

Aha.. I checked the FAQ.. yes indeed, they got new logos for undisclosed gender. Just those generic little silhouettes.

there's another kind out there that is all blue.

Like mine. I guess they change the ghost like ones. Dunno why it has to lean towards the male rather than anything else

Yes, the previous non-gender-specified icons were confusing (the ghost-like appearance made people think that it indicated the user was "currently offline", for example) so they were changed. The FAQ lists what all the various site icons mean.

In terms of "what they look like", when you are working with a 14x16 pixel image, you don't have a lot of room for intricate detail. In addition, the site tries to keep a somewhat consistent appearance. The new silhouette icons are intended to fit in more uniformly with their gender-specified variants. If anybody feels they can come up with a better "genderless" icon that blends well with the other icons, I'm sure the admins would consider it...

Whoa - the blue man is cool. I might have to become genderless for a while

I saw them in Boston--awesome performance--both aurally and visually. No cameras were allowed in, so I didn't get any shots unfortunately (even though I had my Coolpix 3100 in my pocket--didn't want to risk getting thrown out of an awesome show)

I changed my preferences to "gender unspecified" and it transformed me into a male! And, no, I'm not headed for San Francisco.
