Good advice, Jelena. Now if I could just get myself to listen to it!
David, why are you leaving one letter comments? I got an "s"... :-) |

I am a child of the Vietnam era, and all too many of my friends found themselves in this situation a million miles from home with their brothers in arms.
Kids who were friends of mine came back forever changed, and not for the better.
That was my first exposure to the horrors of humanity, and this 26 year old man managed to bring that all back to me in a heartbeat, demonstrating limitless depth of soul and understanding, and reaching deep down into my heart.
This image touches me deeply, too....
To be able to convey these powerful evocations of the human condition is amazing to me.....and in those so young....
I strive for this ability.......thanks, Jelena, for revisiting these for me.

Though it won't be the same, if you tell me some of those little out of the way places you'd like to visit, I'd love to take pictures of some of them for you! |

Thanks guys, glad you liked it :) I love the Team Suck philosophy.
All credit to our Fearless Leader, naturally. (I'm merely interpreting the gospels :p)
And yeah, I wish I could follow my own advice sometimes... Easier said than done, but hey :) |

Okay.....can you do an analysis in dork-understandable terms.....as good as I am with colors.....I know what taupe, ecru, and aubergine are....what the heck is flaxen chestnut?????
[thumb]651428[/thumb]
Whazzis???
ETA: This is one of the two previously featured.
ETA II: BTW, these things are HUGE!!! |
yep they can be big critters all right...remember draft horses were the precursor to tractors, tanks etc...
Chestnut means a horse that is a uniform shade of brown all over, ie the horse in my miserable Triptych shot is a chestnut. The mane and tail, however, may be lighter or a slightly different shade of brown than the body. In the case of Belgians the mane and tail are white-blond, or the colour of flax, ergo flaxen chestnut. So is the little pony on the left in my Dichotomy entry, while his full brother is a dark bay.
Hope this helps, and btw congrats on a soaring pet pic score! |

Yes, it does, thanks!
Oh....relative to my "soaring" pet entry....got a wake-up call on THAT when I started voting this morning!!! LOL!!! My post in the Pet Portrait thread:
Well.....I felt pretty good about my pet portrait....I'm still happy relative to my pet and my photography, BUT....
You have rated 52 of 261 images (20%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 52 of 261 images (20%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 7.2115.
I finally got around to voting......I'm not sure I'll make a Top 50!!! LOL!!!
What an AWESOME array of beautiful animals!!! You guys are really off the charts with beautiful renditions of your much-loved pets! These are all winners on many levels. I've gotten a bunch of faves from your entries!!!!

I'm probably too high for the brown ribbon, but I think I'll still fall into the bottom 5 percent.

I'm not doing too shabby with my pet - though I'm 100% certain that the misspelled title is hurting my score.

BTW, sad to report that I had to send Luna back to the rescue she came from...despite her small size, she was getting aggressive with Druli (ie using claws when 'play'-fighting) and worse yet, laying claim to his favourite sleeping places as hers...including Druli's side of the bed. Used claws too. They had stopped playing together and Druli was getting very stressed, ie puking daily.
So, unlike Ellen Degeneres (the Izzygate thing) I kept to the terms of the contract I signed when I adopted her and returned her. She loves me and I was very fond of her, but I primarily got her as a companion for Druli. The next home she is adopted out to, she will be the ONLY pet. When it comes to other animals she simply has no concept of boundaries.
Previous to me adopting her, she went to a home where there were two bull terriers, and she bullied them mercilessly. I did know this before adopting her and thought it might be different with a member of her own species but sad to say, nope...
*sigh* however I am on the list for a kitten, so in a few more weeks there ought to be one of adoptable age (and more malleable nature) that won't challenge Druli on a regular basis. He's big, yes, but very non-aggressive and just not interested in having to fight for his position. And as he's almost 14, he shouldn't have to... |

Sorry to hear that Luna didn't work out, Susan. Hopefully you'll be able to find a companion for Druli before too long.

As a non-professional, but highly experienced servant of animals, sometimes you just get one that will not get along with others. When that happens, although it's difficult, the original pet has rights of ownership that really shouldn't be disregarded.
It's a difficult and unhappy determination to make....I'm sad for you, Susan.

Not only do I have some great TS comments, I have two favorites in my pet portrait from TS members! You guys rock! I'm extremely pleased with my score (bouncing in 6.87 range) but am quite sure it will take 7++ to ribbon in this one. I didn't expect my photo - a little on the OOBIE side - to do well, but am happy to see that sometimes an attempt at artistry can glean rewards here. |

well said, Jeb, I concur with this - a tough decision, but absolutely the right thing to do to come down on the side of the cat with "tenure". Sometimes the fit just isn't right. |

Don't sweat it - I was just wondering if there was a new secret code and I missed the memo. I miss all the good memos. (Actually I was worried you were using the new "vote with the keyboard" thing and it was screwing up somehow.) I'll just assume the "s" means "Superfantastic!" :-) |

Its too bad you do not live near me, my Mama kitty is expecting babies any second now. I expected her to have them while I was at work today. She can barely waddle to the food bowl LOL. |

Okay I'm in for Black and White in color. Thinking I will have a score in the 4%. I happen to like it so know that it will suck with the DPC crowd, hopefully some people will like it. |

No B&W in Colour or Colour on Colour entries for me. And Led Zepplin doesn't interst me, so I'm out for a bit I guess.

Aw dang! I'd love to have one of your kittens, Barbara...please post pics when they hatch :-)...meanwhile the rescue from where I got Luna is currently keeping tabs on 4 expectant moms, so hopefully it won't be long before we find someone else...
In for Colour on Colour, trying to think of how to shoot for LZ without having to fly to a Nordic country ;-) |
