| Hey guys! I was looking into buying a new tripod, but I really hate lugging it around with me everywhere. I was wondering if anyone found alternative tripods that work well? Here is a string tripod design that I found. I decided to make it, and did a test to compare to hand holding, but didn't really see any improvements. |

| tru a monopod... dounbles as a walking stick if you like ;) |

| If your camera is not of the several pounds variety, you can do some interesting stuff with a Gorilla-Pod (or similar). |

| I have used home-made beanbags to stabilize my camera with decent results. Easy to carry in a camerabag too. Some people use beaniebabies! (which can double as a toy to distract any baby for portaits you might be doing...) |

Actually, the largest version can handle SLRs with zoom lenses. I use one with my D200 and 70-200 2.8, for example.

hehe I took a store bought bag of beans to Africa with me. $1.29. |

I'm cheap. I usually take an empty bag then buy the beans there. You could always give them away if they are valuable to the locals too(either way). I bought a bag of rice in Sydney when I didn't have a tripod for night shots, too.

I was taking shots of my younger daughter at a "doughnut eating contest". She was across the crowd from me, so I could get her face. Her big sister was standing behind her, and the photographer from the local newspaper was, in turn, behind my older daughter. I'm not certain, but I think he was using my older daughter's head as a tripod. I think I got a photo of it, but haven't opened it up on my laptop yet. I'll try to get around to it this weekend, as it would be a humorous shot for my portfolio. :-)
