Looks like me and the kids will be joining a fellow DPCer and his kids for a road trip down to Bradenton Florida the beginning of March - March 3-9 to be exact. We will be staying at his inlaws place for the week. Just wondering if there are any other DPCers in the general area that may be interested in hooking up during the week and going shooting somewhere. I have never been to that area and have no clue what is around but would be interested in finding out. Odds are all of our kids will be joining us wherever we go. Anyone intersted?

I am about 2 hours one way from Bradenton. It's not so far that I couldn't be thinking about driving up that way for an afternoon and evening. I would like to meet you and your clan of Too's. There are a lot of interesting places near there.

all the Ohioans must be escaping to Florida that week. We are going to be in Jacksonville during that time. :)

You can take in a Pirates game at McKechnie Field! The Pirates always stink, but McKechnie is a really neat place to see a ballgame... and you'll be in the midst of Spring Training, I do believe.

I've seen a couple games there, and it's really the way baseball was meant to be. The players are much more willing to greet fans, and the field itself is very intimate. There are older folks who greet you as you come in for the games, and the tickets are cheap. It might be a fun way to spend one of your afternoons.

Bring some orange juice home from Mixon's, too! I believe their farm is right near Pirate City, if memory serves. Great stuff!

Siesta Key is an awesome beach, just south of town (again, going from memory). The beach is really, really nice, with fine, white sand.

And I'd recommend spending some time in Sarasota, too. It's an enjoyable town with a good number of nice shopping places, a neat marina, etc.

Have fun!

An adjustment on travel dates - it will be the week before I think. Feb 25th through March 2nd.

No, not myself but my parents live there during the winter months. :)

See, those new dates still are FAR too late to avoid the single digit weather you're having there right now. You should come down this weekend and visit with Roxanne and David at the Space Center. Although it looks like we just missed a launch on the 7th.

OK - This is the current situation. We are leaving Columbus this coming Sunday and should be in Bradenton Monday evening. And then we will probably be leaving sometime Saturday. I am basically open any time between Tuesday and Friday, day or evening. I will have both Aidan and Rowan with me wherever we end up going, but they are both mellow kids and behave rather well (knock on wood). Again - I am not familiar with the area at all. I will have a vehicle so I can travel a bit. If you are interested in hooking up with us shoot me a PM before Saturday and we can pass on to each other vital info. Just give me a shout.

Turns out I won't be too far behind you, more or less! I just learned that my wife booked a cruise for us out of Tampa on March 27 to celebrate my Big 4-0 (which is looming over me this Thursday). I'm excessively psyched!!

I think you'll enjoy the Gulf Coast, if you haven't visited that area before. The beaches are really nice, and it's fun to wade out into the water -- some places the water gets very gradually deeper, so you can wade out really far. I've been to that area several times, and that region is one of my favorite parts of FL.

Anyway... have a great time!

Alan, should we be worried about you?

Unfortunately, I'm 3 hours away. :S

Is that when we get to change your username to OldMan? ;)

Tim, you may find this web page useful in planning your days on the fly. NOAA Tampa 12 hr forecasts
I will try to find some good excuse to drive up that way during the time that you will be in the area. It's about 1.5 hours drive from home, so is within reasonable distance for a afternoon GTG run.
My sister in law works for Clyde Butcher at his gallery in Sarasota, which is nearby. That's two reasons to go up there already, to see you and family, and to visit with her and maybe see Clyde and Niki if they aren't off around the country with one of their exhibits.
Don't let Alan fool you into jumping into that beautiful water. It's cold this time of year LOL.

Alan, Happy early birthday. 40 to 50 is a lot of fun, but the second 50 is a lot tougher. : P

So this is the current plan. MelonMusketeer, the kids and I will be meeting on Wednesday at this gallery - Clyde Butcher. Then we are going to lunch and afterwards finding some places to shoot. If anyone i sinterested in joining us drop a post here or send a PM to MelonMusketeer and the details will get sent. Its all snow and ice in our area right now so I am looking forward to seeing some colors and warmth.
