im having a hard time understanding how my pic for the textures challenge, , recived 12 3's, 3 2's and 2 1's. and yet it got 13 10's. can anyone try and explain or is it just one of those "some ppl just suck" type situations?

also for those who asked me if the bug was real, yes its real and here is another shot of it . im wondering if i got bad scores cause they thought the bug was fake? and no its not dead, but playing dead. cause as soon as i touched him w/ the leaf, he climbed on it for my shot and posed nicely :)

No doubt this is one unusual, unique bug/moth.
I gave you a 5. It fit the challenge, I liked the colors but didn't care for the composition, crop and lighting.
Why did you get 1's and 2's? Hey you'll never know-most entries do.
You did well be happy.

ya im happy about it overall, but i had higher expectations. i guess i need to tone those down a bit.. :)

Looks very nice to me. There's a slight blur at the top of the head that bothers me, but the colors are great, and so are the textures. I would've given it an 8 had I voted. If it makes you feel any better, think of those who gave you 1s, 2s and 3s as "not bug people"... it might of given them the hives just looking at it, but i like bugs personally so I don't know what their problem was with it.

All in all, good job.

If you are saying that some people suck because they gave your entry a low vote you are wrong. The explanation is that a lot of people really liked it a lot and some others didn't like it at all. I think it would have looked better if you hadn't tried to pinch the DoF, would have been nice to see more of the moth in focus. Also the colors are unusual and I guess some voters thought you manipulated them a lot. The color of the leaf contributes to this a bit. How come you didn't put the exposure details (aperture, ISO & shutter speed) on your entry? For this one 6.0 is generous to my way of thinking. Don't see why you feel you have the right to say someone sucks just because they didn't like your photo.

The way I look at it is I got the most votes of 6 so I'm looking at it as a 6. You can't stop people from voting for friends and family, or trying to knock your score down by giving your shot a 1.

So just check which number you got the most votes on, and take that as your average.

I think that what happened in your case is that some people voted low on this because of the subject matter. A lot of people don't like bugs.

im not sure the settings i used, it was mostly on auto mode/macro.

did you guys like the other picture of it any better?

I gave the original entry shot a "10". Vibrant colors, the variety of textures that you presented to the viewer are the main reason I gave you the top score.

I was one of the people who asked if it was real. I'm glad to learn that it was. What an extraordinary find. I gave it a 7. I like being able to see the wings in the other shot but I agree that the one you submitted was better.

My texture entry received 5 1's, 9 2's, and 25 3's. I'm also baffled by it, but it always happens so I guess we're just going to have to get used to it.

How about this.... I had absolutely NO 1's, ...but finished 233 out of 409???? Go figure. (Or maybe the score busters just saw no reason to mess with this one ;-)))

I gave only 1 of the top 3 a "10".

I really liked your bug picture. I love the colors. I think I gave it an 8. I also would have liked to see more of it in focus and there was a hot spot on the bug, but I scored it high because it was such a great fuzzy texture. Great find!

I def. feel you. Not much time to post right now, but this was my first challenge and I feel a little disheartened by the fact that I received 10, count 'em 10 ones. I could whine and explain my take on things, but hell.... the whole thing is like an experiment in psychology... Mine, yours and the group. Congrats to everyone for putting yourself out there.

Peas.

I admit that I gave it a 6 because I was sure it's a toy, and I don't like toy shots :( Now that I know it's real I'm so sorry I sould of given this a 9 or a 10, but hey with 400+ entries you can't blame anyone for not paying enough attention. Again I'm sorry I know it's late but if I could I'd sure change my vote.

By the way what kind of bug is that. The most interesting bug I ever saw.

just wondering... if people score really low on a lot of entries, Could it be possible they "think" they will boost their own scores? How awful!

No, they think they'll bring others down to their level... "Misery loves company."

I didn't vote on this but if I did I would have given it 7 maybe 8.
It looks nice!
Just remember it is their opinion, you don't have to acknowledge it
if you don't want to!
as far as the second pic goes, the shadow is bit to much I think.
Still a nice shot, but the first is way better!
Just my two cents.

i have a feeling alot of people did the same thing :(

not sure what kind of bug it is. i need to look it up. but there are tons of them on my house. (crazy bugs down in FL..)

I was pretty sure it was a real bug, I thought the angle could have been better to show more of it and show it really was real. I don't think any of the voters on it sucked. I just think this was one of those shots where people either really liked it, or really didn't like it.

well i still dont think it deserved a 1-3. oh well..

I gave your shot an "8".

Madmordegan's I gave a 6 because I thought it was a fake bug. (Oops - I actually think photographer's comments should be shown during the competition - but that's another thing - knowing it was real would have boosted it 1 point.)
