My comments have been honest and constructive (for the most part). My goal is not to rip images apart but to simply convey my views and add some commments on how I would have tried to improve it. It is better to comment on a 4 and try to encourage ways to improve results than rating something an 8 and simply stating "Amazing". It would be nice to start seeing the average rating on commented votes being lower than votes without comments...at least it will be a step in the direction of sharing our thoughts so that we all improve.

EDIT...84 % of my comments are rated helpful and I know I have made many negative ones in the past.

To be totally honest... I would give almost anything to see more comments, whether they be good bad or downright ugly. My best of 2007 entry is at 3.9695 after 164 votes but only 5 comments. Obviously no one likes it so have scored it low. What I want to know is...WHY? If I am going to improve...tell me why I haven't done so yet!!!

Whew...now that I have that said...I apologize for the rant in the middle of a perfect good forum thread.

Thank you...this is exactly my point and the reason why I am trying to comment on every image.

Thank you, I got a useful, well-thought through comment too. No brutality either :)

479 comments just completed. My head is going to explode!!! I tried my best and I know there are going to be some images that I rated way to high or way to low. I am going to try and scan tomorrow and do some bumping up or down.

Hope my comments were helpful...Good Luck to everyone!!!

Thanks for the comment! Really appreciate your effort at 100%. Mine was one of those you considered "overprocessed" in the sky. Made me chuckle a little as besides the RAW conversion all I did was contrast and unsharp mask, burning the edges a little.

Interesting point, but I have to agree with a lack of basic technicalities in the "Best of 2007" challenge. I myself have noticed quite a few with the horizons tilted one way or the other. I think that for a "best of" "advanced editing" challenge a person could rotate their picture so that the horizon is level. And actually, that's permitted in "basic editing."

I think it all depends on what angle one sits on their chair to view it! ;) Not all horizons are "level".

Edited to add...

Do we have an "over processed sky" and "level horizon" obsession going around now? ;)

Good Luck to you, and thanks.

Thanks rmtm333 for your comment on this:

And well done on attempting such an exercise. Your comment was absolutely spot on - very perceptive (and one of the later ones I think too.)

I was disappointed with the score I got overall - but am inclined to agree with the comments that whilst it's a nice sunset, there's not much else to grab you about that photo. Thought it was worthy of a 5 though :-(
