I have a 17-40. It is okay, but I'd like to go wider. Can't use EF-S lenses.

Any somewhat sanely priced options that are good quality ? Happy to go prime,
would prefer probably not fishy, but could be persuaded with examples I suppose.

I love my new fisheye lens! I haven't taken very many shots with it yet, but I think that it's going to be a very fun toy.

So is the canon 15mm fisheye good ? Suppose there is that or the slightly pricier canon 14mm. Then there is the $800 ish sigma 14mm

For the Canon 14mm, make sure you have a mark II, it's substantially better

Tamron also has a good 14/2.8 @ about $700

I've been eying this lens myself. And the moderate price (~$690) makes it interesting.

Reading a few reviews, I found one in which it was pitted against the 17-40 for sharpness, and the reviewer said he had to get three different copies before he was satisfied. His conclusion was - the 12-24 is a good choice, especially if you need to go wider than the 17-40, but apparently it may be difficult to get a good copy.

I find the 12-24 DPC Galleries (Canon Mount, Nikon Mount) to be quite lovely... of course, those are the highest rated shots taken with this lens. I've always purported that DPC should get a percentage whenever a DPC'er buys new glass. =)
