I was told I could enter my Leopard posters for an upcoming local wildlife art sale this summer.
Leopard Poster I
Leopard Poster II
Leopard Montage
My questions are:
They say they have to be professionally framed and matted and or matted and shrink wrapped.
How do you professionally frame and matte or matte a 16" x 24" poster?
Man I wish DPCprints had this option I could do it all in one step.
Also you have to send in a slide?
I did not think they were still using these :)
I have read this in the forum about making slides from digital photos, I need to research this again. About all I recall is members saying it was just a little expensive.
The final price is set by the photographer with 20% going to the wildlife fund.

From what I've seen, most art sales/festivals/fairs require a slide. I had started a forum thread about it because I want to enter some of these this summer.
As far as professionally matting and framing. You could take it to a framing shop and they'll do it. We make our own frames, buy the glass in sheets and cut it ourselves, I buy the mats precut and I buy the mounting board in sheets and cut it. Once it's all put together, the final step is attaching a dust cover to back of the frame and then the hanging hardware.
Edit: Congrats on getting your art noticed and invited to a sale!!! They are wonderful prints :-)

I have done this, but the matting covers up the border. |

I would guess the DPCprints copy of the 16" x 24" posters would be the better buy.
What do you think it would cost me (roughly) to frame and matte the three 16" x 24" posters?

Calvus, answering part of your question, To get a slide made, make a JPEG file at 5 Mg or more, and put it on a zip disk or CD and find a photo processing lab in your city who will make a slide from it. In San Francisco, the lab I use charges $8 per slide. |

I guess I'm a little slow today :)
What is the slide suppose to be?
A slide of the original poster or a slide of it framed and matted or Matted?

The best thing to do for the printing and matting would be to contact places like Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Jeffrey Alan's, etc...
It seems that they always have 1/2 price sales on framing and matting.
Or contact a local frame specialty shop.
Congrats

If they are asking for a slide, I would imagine it would be of the print itself. |

Can't answer that, but I can tell ya every place I've looked into here all require a slide. That goes for sales/festivals/fairs judged and not judged. |

The wildlife art sale is for all types of art work not just photography.
I was told the slides are for them to review and decide what goes where.
As for photographs they will determine which photos are to be framed
and put in their main display.

Calvus,
Wonderful shots. Are they from Fossil Rim? The materials to frame and mat yourself would be around $50. With labor, I'd have to estimate $100 or more.
The answer from sfalice is consistent with Monte Nagler's description of the process to get a slide made.
Looks like the trip in April will be quite humbling. Great work. maybe I'll just carry your bags.
