I am recovering from shoulder surgery and I am not able to take any photos for a while so to keep myself busy I am considering beginning to sell some of my better images on my own webpage. I will be having a 3rd party printing and framing the photographs. So I would not be able to personally sign them. I was wondering what other photographers opinions were on putting one's name digitally in the corner of the photograph. It appears to be the only way to take credit for and possibly protect images when they are sold online. Are their advantages or disadvantages to doing this? Does it reduce the appeal of the image to someone who might want to buy it? What do you recommend? Thanks for all opinions.

I sign my for sale work with a digital signature. I figure it this way; Painters sign their work and sculptures, theirs. When I am more famous ;) the signature will be a valuable commodity. Until such time (for those purists out there) it absolutely builds brand (style) recognition. I can't remember hearing anyone saying, "Gee I wish ole Vincent hadn't signed his name there."

I know how it sounds, but I'll sign my prints!

It says, "Mildred Vaningbottom," right?
