Sorry up front okay, I know it's a common question & I am running thru model specs & building a spreadsheet :-) My old cheapie died (well, the kids killed it a while back).
What models have you guys found that are tall... My eyes run @6'3" from the ground, which for most models leave me on my knees with the centre column extended :-/. I plan to get a ball head, so that takes a little off the length but I wanted to avoid having the centre column up all the time. Ignore price for the moment.... I like to figure what I really want and then compromise for price :-(

I'm 5'11" and I saw a manfrotto that stood way above me when extended, even without the ball head, cant remember the model number though, sorry. I was in a shop so it is a current model.

Last week, I was in a photography store and played around with a pistol-grip ball head. Man...was that nice! My next tripod will have a pistol grip, for sure!
Here are a couple (but not what I had my hands on, though)...

Check this one out, about 5'9" extended. You might have to stoop a little. That without a head though!

If you aren't worried about weight, the ones from Amvona are pretty nice. I have the AT-828 and love it. Only problem is it weighs a ton. This makes it nice and stable for portraits but harder to drag around. I think they also have some others, possibly lighter ones, but I don't have first hand experience with them.
