I really thought this one had a chance at a top 10 finish!! Now I'll be grateful for a 6 for an image that I'm deeply proud of. It seems I have much to learn either about DPC voter taste or the basics of photography...I hope it's the former ;)

compared to mine, which is not only at 4.2x, but being reviewed and possibly dq'd, i'd say you are all doing fine. and if mine were over 5.x, i'd be pleased...but that's just me. i worked very hard on my submission. wasted a whole day and tried to do advance editing (probably way overdone and not very well) and it's very disappointing.

so be happy people! :D

6.0000 and desperately clinging to it, by the looks of things. 2 favs, so who cares :-)

I'm pleased with the score (though this is within .2 of my ceiling, so I still likely haven't broken that yet), but am most psyched about the favorite, which I've not had in a long time during a challenge :)

It seems I have a ton of comments in comparison to some others, though I'm not sure what about my shot draws that out (all are positive but one, where it looked like he had to work pretty hard to find something critique-like to say); all much appreciated!

Happy holidays, all!

Slowly increased, so at this time it looks like I will make both my 6.5 and 6.75 goal! Keep the scores up - trolls, stay away on your Christmas vacation, don't come back any time soon (like, "ever" would be even bettere)

No faves, but some serious positive comments, also from some of those members who use ribbons for wallpaper ...

Mines been crawling very slowly up to just past the 5 1/4 mark. I'm rather surprised at it's mediocre performance. I've has some good feedback, and only one commenter said they did not like it (I do appreciate the feedback, even if negative).

I suppose mine is one that either you like or don't. I'm interested in seeing my voting graph for this one. I expect it will be fairly spread out and not bunched up in one area like they usually are.

...and I just noticed while posting this that someone faved it. Cool.

i would like to have mine removed. is this possible at this late date? it's now been validated so that shouldn't be a problem. i have 115 votes, many of which are 2s and 3s and only 1 comment in the lot. i don't want it to be forever on home page forever as an entry. this was my first try at 'advanced editing' and i have tried having a sense of humour about it all, but it's just felt all too humiliating and if i can get it out of there, i think i would feel better (except about being a quitter part).

We all have photos we wish we had never entered. I have several embarrassments in my portfolio, but they stand as reminder to have far I have come and how much I have grown as a photographer. Ultimately it is up to you, but personally I would rather have one or two low scoring photos than be a "quitter". By the time you have entered 100 challenges, no one will ever see your low scorers again anyway. YMMV.

Yeah send a request to the site council via the help link on the menu.

so far 3 of 4 challenges i've entered are low-scoring, but i really hate the idea of being a quitter. but then i'm not reallly learning anything from my mistakes because no one comments to tell me what they are or how to fix them, especially on this challenge. they are just sitting on my page glaring at me.

what is YMMV?

Let it go.

My first entry was a 3.8851....my best to date is a 6.7937.

It's a total reflection on how far I've come and how much I've gotten from being here.

Really and truly, DPC after a while becomes so much more than the score of the current challenge.

It's a sounding board, free education, a perspective once you get rolling, you make friends here.....

The only way that this can be humiliating is if you don't see it as a learning process.

Honest, nobody cares if you get a low score......what we do care about is that you learn from this and take steps to improve what you do.

You're still gonna lay an egg here and there, too. I got a 4.2966 in June, and my self-portrait from a week or so ago got a 4.9905.

Scores don't mean anything if you don't give them credence.

It's about improving your techniques and skills, which has certainly happened for me.

There are a whole lot of cheerleaders and their moms here who think that I'm the neatest thing since sliced bread from what I've learned.......many of them have individual portraits from me, and I put together a picture disc for everyone at the Christmas party.

The point is.....learn from this but don't waste a DQ on a learning experience. You got validated, why yank it now?

Your mileage may vary.

Sometimes getting another DPCers point of view on a photo is helpful before entering a challenge. If you want to post a request for a second opinion, you will likely find someone (maybe even a ribbon winner) who is willing to look at the photo and give you some suggestions, and then agree to not vote on it.

I realize this does not help with a photo that is already in voting, but for future challenges it might be just what you need.

Sorry I am of no better help.
