Everyone goes for clowns with glasses, especially if they have bright RED RIBBONS like hipychik's entry! Congrats also to levyj413 for his top score, and to cosprenks for her personal top 5!

Checking in from the work 'puter (yes, I'm actually at work, albeit in CIVILIAN CLOTHES!!) Thanks for all the good wishes, and yes, it's nice to be home. Though to be honest, the first 24 hours were rather weird. Kinda like a limbo-ish thing. Kitties are good, though Murphy's kitty is NOT at all happy with me. Perhaps because our initial encounter involved me cramming her into a small cage then throwing her in a car and transporting her away from her home. She's in a separate room in my house - she and mine don't play well together (my cats pick on her). We'll see how it goes. I was glad to have a few hours at the airport at Ramstein with my friend who was on her way out. She's understandably nervous and I hope I alleviated a few unknowns for her. I'll spend a lot of time trying to keep in touch with her - that's the best thing downrange folks can get is contact. And my personal thanks to you guys here at Team Suck - you all provided that for me, for which I'm very, very grateful!

It's good to be home.

Actually Deb, our thanks go out to you. You gave us a very good journey (through your eyes). You stayed in touch well. And we had a good friend, and great photographer, on the front lines on the hot climate.

spider vid - funny. canadians will laugh - a spoof on the Hinterland Who's Who TV spots that were ubiquitous on Canadian TV until the 80s.

O my goodness I went to bed last night with Spectacles sitting at 5.3 and wake up this morning to see that it is a personal best. So I'm on my way to replacing my P&S photos with DSLR ones. Now all I need to do is get out of the 5 rut and move into the 6's. Staying here with you guys will help.

I will share a little secret with you...if my Abandoned Buildings score keeps up the way it is...it will be either my WORST ever score or my second to worst...now that is sucking!

Well fellow suckers...now that I got that ribbon out of the way, it's back to sucking. My rivers is at 4.5. Maybe a brown ribbon?
Thanks for all the wonderful comments on my Clown entry!

I very cleverly, and sensibly, and if you believe that you'll believe anything, refrained from entering this inspired thing about how it's not actually abandoned but neither is it important enough to take the place of the sky, in the abandoned building challenge:

So now I've got a yellow 4.6 instead.

Congrats too Terry! My head feels like it has been in the clouds lately (I haven't had the chance to look at the challenge results).

I've wanted to do digital IR for a long time. Should I send in my 20d camera body, or get one of their P&S models?

Depends on what you want to do with it, I guess - if you like shooting in RAW and want to keep that with any IR-converted camera, a lot of P&S cameras might not be right for you, then. I believe, as far as Canons go, they will do the modification on any model you send in, so the 20d shouldn't be a problem.

Maxmax was really fast - sent it out on Wednesday, delivered on Thursday, back at my doorstep the following Tuesday. Everything appears to be working well, although I'm still trying it out.

You can also choose between infrared-only and infrared+visible light, if you don't want to lose the "normal" functionality of your camera - I don't know what the difference is though, in the sense of whether there is any compromise to the IR pictures if you don't convert completely.

My "Rivers" is close to my front page score-wise, my "abandoned" is close to my worst ever...

My Yellow entry is looking like it's going to be a personal worst for me *sigh*

106 votes, avg score of 3.6, but not a single comment.

*LOL* Mind you - I personally would have voted it either a 3 or 4, so I shall not complain. It's perfectly horrid !

Congrats, Terry! Cosprenks, too!

I'm in the running for my first 7+ ever in Rivers & Streams, which would be a personal best. :)

Hee! That's funny because I do that too - I enter something, then think "Gosh, I'd only give that a 5. What was I thinking?" Fun game we play here, isn't it?

Gotta say it's hard living without internet. I did have to come to the office this morning to pick up some stuff, and drop off some stuff. Then I'm off to Ramstein AB to file a voucher, do a bit of shopping. Then may just relax for a bit. I did order internet from the American company that fronts for the German company, only to discover that had I gone with the German company straight off it would have been a lot cheaper. And numbers are the same in German - figure I could have read the bill just fine. Grr. But hey, it's a necessity, not a luxury, so I guess I'll pay what they tell me. And for those of you in the states, it's about $80 a month for internet and a phone line. No cable, no nothing - just internet (DSL) and a phone line.
