Not really a bad idea. Then all the people over the years that called us imperialists would be correct. :)
With free borders we'd no longer have to worry about illegals from the south.
MORE IMPORTANTLY we could immigrate to the south. Many opportunities to be exploited there. It would be like the days of the west being opened up again. Standards of living in the south would skyrocket and eventually as everywhere else this happened, birth rates would drop. Maybe you'd like to be the new gov. of Mexico DrNick? |

Nah! I'll wait for the annexation of Canada and run for Governor of Canada :)

Bite your tongue! I've often opined that such a scenario is actually appallingly LIKELY...

I don't know about an annexation; but I do predict a gradual assimilation.

Speaking of Presidential Canidates, I'm working on some attributes that should make me a fine eligible prospect.
GO TEAM AMERICA! |

Originally posted by Fromac: As neighbours to the US, we Canadians are understandably interested in American politics. The current presidential race is shaping up to be very interesting indeed.
If the Democrats are the favourites (and the last poll I saw put them firmly in front) the question that I find most intriguing is this:
Are Americans more likely to elect a black man or a white woman to their highest political office?
This raises further questions.
Is American society ready for either?
Are they so far from allowing either possibility that they'll, by default, just elect another old white Republican?
I'd love to see what DPC'ers think. |
Who ever is not interested in American politics is not interested in World politics. The North American Union is what these bilderburg bastards want. Including a new currency. |

Might not be a bad thing - then the NAU could get back on top of the heap as the more dominant trading bloc (the EU just took the lead last year)
Might stop you getting all the poisonous Chinese toys that are banned from Europe now. |

A NAU would require the US to give up its sovereignty. That's a non-starter for most U.S. citizens. |

That's true, but as a result you'll slowly erode your economic power, compared to other larger trading groups.
Suppose you could just add two new states to the union :) |

Im for it if it means strengthening the economy, but I doubt that would happen. The NAU would just help the US get out of all its debt.
But Clinton wants the NAU, and she is being groomed by the Bush/Clinton family which has controlled the U.S now for about 30 years. When Bush Sr. Was vice pres. all the way up to now. |

Adding two states to the union wouldn't compromise our sovereignty. Those states would come under the perview of our constitution. A merging of Canada and Mexico into a new entity would essentially trash our constitution as we would no longer self determine our fate. The UN has been trying to weaken the sovereign nature of countries for years with proposals like the Law of the Sea Treaty, etc.
The day we sacrifice the constitution for the sake of the economy is the day the US as we have all known it will cease to exist. |

Constitution? That old thing? Who still uses it, anyway? |

Clinton or Obama, either would be great to turn around the absolute disaster Bush has led us in to. |

OK, I admit it, I'm not terribly imaginative or, indeed, wild.

Yes, it could, but, don't forget that any raspberry filling would, by default, occupy space that could be better put to use with chocolate filling.
My watchphrase is: "That may be good, but where's the chocolate in that?"

True. I think you've got me there.
Maybe two cakes at the same time, then ? Now we are dreaming really wild.

They might even have come from the same bakery. You could almost say they were related. |
