I honestly think we need to lighten up a bit... it's perfectly OK to poke fun at men as they age... endless jokes about baldness, potbellies, ED, you name it, but poke fun at a female, and you're a misogynist. Well, I'll run the gauntlet anyway... boy, she looks over the Hillary in that photo!

I recall obama making the news for a shirtless photo, edwards being poked fun at for a $$$ haircut, and old crusty thompson being scorned for having a hot wife. It's not just picking on women. We hit em all.

Yeah, no kidding. How shallow can people be?

edit post looking up the word....

Now that I've read the meaning of the word misogynist, I'm totally confused how after only 8 responses to the links, anyone can come to the conclusion that this thread was heading in that direction..

It seems to me, it only went in that direction after frisca's post.. But, maybe I'm not understanding the meaning of the word since it's the first time I have ever heard it.. Or is this just another DP forum that started off talking about an image and has now gone totally off track and blown out of proportion ??

Pretty much. You might want to also look up the term "misandrist" since that might be relevant as well. :(

I think some of you are missing some of the obvious things that can help us as photographers.

Studio lighting - always a benefit to portraits and making people look good.
B&W versus color - to me, B&W is "ageless" even if the subject has wrinkles.
A great smile. The biggest difference between the two shots, to me, is the way a smile can light up the eyes. Had she been smiling in the second shot, I don't think the differences would be as severe.

(None of the above should be construed as an endorsement for any candidate of any gender for any office.)

take away TV and any "face time" and what do you have. ABE LINCOLN. How many unattractive, fat, balding, pot-bellied presidents did we have before video and "easily available" photography. I would rather vote them on the issues. Not that we hear much of that anyway, but....
I still wouldn't vote for Hillary.

that pic is still a YIKES! compared to her press release though.

Huh? That is not even the same photo... What's the point?

frisca - I would say a bit blunt, harsh, intentionally provocative and seems to have diverted attention away from other aspects of productive analysis such as Melethia's contribution for example.

Mysogynism is undoubtedly an appropriate link, for insights & further study of H. Clinton's presidential campaign and really in many other areas of society.

The gender neutral issue
has significance, but aging and the way it is presented by candidates I see is primarily the reason for Richard's initial photo comparison.

Your right... people were too scared of her to think about it :-). Clinton is not in the same scary league as the iron lady :-)

I remember when I believed the old adage that a photo never lies :-/

Hillary has had more plastic surgery than Phyllis Diller for goodness sakes. All of the candidates have fake faces from surgery except maybe McCain who needs a major jowl lift. He looks more like a St. Bernard than a Republican presidential candidate.
