I've been requested to do interior and exterior photography of 3 5000 sqft homes. This would involve shooting many of the interior rooms and exterior elevations to put the images on a website and possibly print for selling the property.

My question is, I would like to price it competitively but not underprice for the amount of post production work that will be required in order to produce images that have HDR and are worthy of the price tag on these houses.

If you're a professional housing photographer, please chime in on how I should go about pricing this.

Here's a link to some interior shots I've done that won this builder awards for their home: //www.pbase.com/crabappl3/valley_dale (yes I feel the shots are too orange, but the client felt it brought warmth to the shots)

I think you put to much time into it.

I know that in my area (near Boston) Coldwell Banker Real Estate pays $400 per house for a couple of crappy exteriors and interiors for their advertizing.

How many photos are you expected to provide? What area of the country are the homes located in?

I imagine about 10+ shots per house. They are located in the higher end area of the Dallas metroplex. Each house is around 5000 sqft, and probably list for around $500,000 or more.

almost every job i've lost, i've lost by giving a price without asking what they had budgeted for the project. almost every job i've turned down, i've turned down because they couldn't give me a budget...

as a rule of thumb, you need to have an idea as to how much time this work is going to take you and you need to have an idea as to how much your time is worth. also take into consideration the value of your work, your reputation, and your relationship with the client. if their budget exceeds what you expected, that's a good thing. if it is less than what you feel comfortable taking, either ask for more, or pass on doing the work.

hope it works out win-win; your gallery is really sweet.

Architectural photography goes for $2000 a day or more for the creative only. That might get you all 3 houses if you lucky. For the best images - assuming they are willing to pay for the best - will require you to visit each location at the right time of day for each room and each exterior elevation (shade or sun, evening or morning sun, sunset, etc). And time of the year can be a factor (spring/fall often the best - enough leaves and bushes to look alive but not so few as to look dead, but few enough to allow views of what needs to be seen.

Anything less is a compromise in some way.

Besides shooting and PP will you have to do anything else? As in set up rooms (lights, furniture), props, etc?

Several real estate companies here do TV shows and want 3 to 5 shots per house. One is always the exterior and one is always the kitchen. Used to be slide film, no PP. Now of course it's digital. $75 a house, including travel was what they used to pay a couple of years ago. Not a lot of PP went into it, no HDR, no setup of rooms as the agent and/or owner did that - photographer would just shoot and run.

What is your hourly fee? How many hours will it take you? There ya go.
