2007 has been the most humbling year of my life. I lost my 39 year-old husband. I moved out of the only home my children have ever known and left 17 years of memories behind. I leased a house that is a mile from my work. I went on vacation with my sister. I read TONS of books, mostly about grief, but some for enlightenment. I renewed my relationship with the Lord. I became active in my church. I have made peace with God. I have volunteered. I have appreciated my children more. I have appreciated my mother more. I have learned that my sister is my best friend and my rock. I have said I love you, I'm sorry, and I forgive you more. I am getting to know me again.

I've been sad, depressed, angry, melancholy, funny, silly, and crazy this year. I guess overall I wish I could change some things, but they are what they are and I am learning to accept that.

Congrats to those who experienced personal growth this year, and prayers for those whose year was less than terrific.

This year I joined DPC!!!!!
I purchased my first DSLR and rekindled my love of photography.
Took the family on their first holiday to the snow and skiing and boarding.
Crashed and wrote off the car (while on the above mentioned holiday)and bought a new one.
My middle boy broke his wrist (during the above mentioned holiday), first breakage in 20 years and three boys.
Learned heaps in photoshop
After 4 years of owning/managing/running two shops, this is the first year that I can concentrate on one shop.
Got a digital photo kiosk (print photos immediately) in my shop and I am it's best customer.

This year...

I separated from my wife of 15 years.
Put my best furry-suited friend to sleep after 12.75 years.
Had quite the time adjusting to life on my own.
Took a photo class and met some great people.
Strained both thumbs at work, not working properly.
Learned to heal a cut very quickly.
Worked a lot but not the work till you drop pace of past years.
Got the holiday blues.
Went to the beaches a lot.
Took many thousands of photos and I like some of them.
Joined DPC.
Purchased the Olympus Evolt E-510 and the 50mm Macro lens.
Still one week left...... ;-}

-Nothing health wise. Had an absolutely marvelous year for that. Hardly even a cold.
-My daughter is a senior in college and got recommended for the management program at Barnes and Noble. She has also received several referrals to pursue her masters, and she made the deans list.
-My sister is in her fourth year of remission from breast cancer, which is the best news. She has 4 kids.
-We got a new kitten. He is black as coal and that is his name.
-After 4 years of pursuit, I finally got a series of pictures of my most favorite bird of all, the blue heron. That happened on a Sunday before church. Missed church but I got at least 40 shots of the heron.
-Got another series of shots of hummingbirds. Another elusive subject.
-Discovered eyefetch and actually began winning some contests. Can't tell you what that has done for my morale and my thrill of photography.
-Have reduced substantially my time at dp. I needed that. I take the whole thing too seriously and dp was making the appeal for me regarding photos much less palatable.
-Reduced the amount of pictures I have been taking and found other hobbies such as sewing and I have dived back into reading again. Once again I needed that.

Life is meant to be lived on a real plane, not just through pictures. I have begun to feel again, begun to communicate, and have begun again to reach out to people and experience life the way it is meant to be, fully engaged and active. From my bunco card group, to my volunteer work, to my finding of new love and life with my husband of 30 years, life has taken a turn for the better in 2007.

07 was not a turning point year in the Roflmao house - maybe 2008. Well, I have to say my 25 yr old stepson went from a homeless drunk to a fully sober, productive, purpose-driven young man this past summer. God did most of the work, so have give props there.

Congrats to you Kel and to the rest of you overachievers. ;-)

I know what you mean. Since photography is just a hobby, I can't say as I have made great strides regarding that. Congrats on your stepson's accomplishment. I hear many stories in my work about folks that are lost and can't find their way out, as well as family members who have followed a dark and depressing path. Your stepson still has a long road, and it is easy to fall back again. Appreciate the accomplishment and you enjoy his new found life. IT is fragile, for some more than others.

An unbelievable year for me!!! It feels like bragging just telling what happened to me!!!

1- Won a National Geographic competition and had my picture appear on the July issue on the National Geographic for Latin America.
2- Had a Kodak POTD
3- Participated in three different exhibits on one of the most important art galleries in my country, they kept two of my pictures for permanent display in their private collection.
4- Getting lots of positive comments on my pictures in Panoramio and Google Earth.
5- Got my first DSLR!!

An eventful year. My wife & I went to Disneyland sans kids for a health care & pension trustee's conference in Feb. Our computer died in March, & so I built us a new one. In April I got an early Fathers day present, a Nikon D70, and have been adding to it ever since. We vacationed in the Hocking Hills of southern Ohio for the week of Independence day, my sister from Florida joined us. I went to San Diego in middle of July for instructor training, what a beautiful place. We repainted, reroofed, & refinanced our house, there went the summer & our savings. At the end of September I started working for a Wind Turbine erection company, & fell in love with my trade all over again. It is a great feeling to be building something that is good for people & the planet. I went to my first Packer game in December, & was reelected chair of my county's Democratic party. I also sold some prints this year, & picked up a couple of photo jobs.
I resolved last year to work less, to volunteer less, to have more time to enjoy my family, & hobbies. I did half of it. I found more time for my wife & kids, I worked more, donated more time & money than I thought possible, I just slept less.
I am so fortunate, I am married to my best friend, my kids are happy, & healthy, & I have a career I love.

January 1, 2007 a couple of discs slipped in my back. On the 12th, it was surgery time. After complications and all that, I got out at the end of the month. Thankfully, I have a tremendously supportive circle of friends who gathered around. I set a goal of at least continuing to write my monthly Camera Club newsletter while recuperating. (Computer time was about 10 minutes a day for a while) Able to drive (sort of) in March, I picked up my camera and went to a nearby beach to try to photograph a windsailing competition. Thatâs where I dropped my 50-500 Sigma. (moral: donât lift something you canât lift) Okay, so we work through this stuff. I bought a 100-400 and will some day get the courage to find out if the Sigma can be repaired) In October I tossed away my âWalking Stickâ (cane). Iâm driving anywhere I care to go these days. . Oh, yes. I took âImage of the Yearâ at my camera club last month. That was because I took part in the âForKâ side-challenge in August and the judges liked my âFork With raspberryâ that I developed during that side-challenge. I'm still putting in my time at our gallery AWE Gallery, adding new pieces and selling some. What the heck! Thereâs life in the old gal yet.

Iâm really, really looking forward to January 1, 2008.

Thought I'd write here again because since my last post my grandma passed away, which was a defining moment of 2007.

But then I read some of the other things people have shared and got a little teary-eyed, because of the good AND the bad. So I wanted to thank you guys for sharing both. :)
