But seriously..... you see the new camera attached to my profile? I finally upgraded from my D100....
Before that:
* made the last payment on my mortgage
* booked my first "solo" photography exhibition (scheduled for Sept 2009!); I've exhibited lots in the last 2 years, but this will be my first solo exhibition
* published a book of photography with my sister's poetry (see my signature below - now available from Amazon.com)
* had a crazy year in my "day" job as a technical writer; expecting more of the same in 2008
* dreamed about quitting my day job as technical writer so I could do photography more (but the reality of my revolving debt kicked in, and I decided to tuff it out for one more year, at least)
* bought a new display system for my "art show" booth (big expense!)
* won an "Award of Excellence in Photography" at an exhibition in April, and a Second Place in another for the same image
and much more...... I think I've had a pretty successful year.

Just the normal stuff in life.
Wore out my camera, moved out, had another heart attack, blew up the engine in my car.
*Yawn*

In a short 12 years this will happen to me. With emphasis on the stop storing crap. The youngest will be 18 and I am selling everything getting an apartment and taking long and frequent vacations. Might even visit a nude beach or two.
Also on a side note when you gonna cook some steaks cause we might visit you when you do?

Wow. Beating diseases, losing weight, PhD's, Masters, starting businesses, yada yada yada...suddenly I have Bart Simpson syndrome. :(
07 was not a turning point year in the Roflmao house - maybe 2008. Well, I have to say my 25 yr old stepson went from a homeless drunk to a fully sober, productive, purpose-driven young man this past summer. God did most of the work, so have give props there.
Congrats to you Kel and to the rest of you overachievers. ;-)

Not a bad year at all, really!
- Traveled to 29 states (Alaska was my 49th state all-time)
- Got a new Prius in July (which I've already put over 17,000 miles on)
- Was published in the Wall Street Journal, Woman's World Magazine, the Weather Channel and NFL Network
- Upgraded to a D300, and got AlienBees
- Did more business in photography than in web design
- Attended 3 DPC GTGs
- Did over 500 Geocaches
- Everyone was healthy, thank goodness! |

Let's see...
-My godson was born :)
-Got kicked out of Dental Assisting school (on a small technicality a.k.a signature)
-After having a meltdown I came to realize that from then on I would devote myself as much as I could to having photography be my profession.
-Was diagnosed with Tuberculosis and had to take pills everyday for 9 months XP
-Got a second job
-Got fired from the second job :(
-Got a ribbon!!!
-Took summer classes, 1 being photography
-My best friend was in Spain for all of the summer so I was very bored.
-My first job closed down :(
-Had an uneventful 19th birthday
-Took fall classes for general Ed
-Got a job at Macy's...ew
-Planned to move out with my friends to San Diego
-Best friend made the dumb decision to join the Marines on a whim
-most of my friends totally bailed on me
-Tried moving in with my other friend
-...but her boyfriend finally moved in
-Tried getting a roomate or an apartment on my own
-^^Didn't work^^
-Found out that my mom REALLY doesn't want me living here anymore
-Did my first paid photoshoot :)
-Learned that I can't depend on anyone but myself unfortunately
-Went to San Diego to visit
-Car broke...twice
-My hard drive crashed and I can only hope and wish that ALL of my pictures weren't lost.
-Still haven't moved out, still haven't gotten a boyfriend and I think I'm failing one class.
So all in all this year was crappy (except for my godson), and I really tried to put in all the positives on the list. I can't wait for 2008, I'm going to move out even if it kills me, I'm going to pass all of my classes, It will be pretty lonely since my best friend will be gone for over a year for Marine Training but then I'll just have to make new friends and maybe a boyfriend, I'm going to take more pictures and do more paid shoots and take more classes, I'm going to make more money so I can buy some equipment, and I am going to be happy because I'll finally get to vote that idiot out of the whitehouse, WHOOO-PEEE!!! Can't wait for '08! :D

Hmmmm... 2007 was an interesting year. Good, bad and ugly.
Some of the good stuff:
-After being out of work since mid 2006, I got a new and much better paying job that I enjoy much more.
-As part of my new job, I've been to Italy 3 times and France once.
-My kids are more and more fun every day.
I'll spare you the bad and the ugly parts...

No paid photography work. Headed to the Middle East in July and am still here. Hope to spend 2008 predominantly in Germany with a trip back to the US to visit family. |

The first half of 2007 was uneventful, had a few health problems but they all cleared up.
Up until June I had never even had a camera other than in my cell phone and had no interest in photography. An upcoming road trip got me interested and I went out and bought a D40, it's been a crazy ride since then.
I spend pretty much all day every day browsing the internet trying to absorb as much photo knowledge as my brain can hold.
Started putting together a strobist lighting set.
Upgraded to the D200 during the D300 snatch.
I'm SO stoked for 2008, I've got some big things planned.
Starting a 365 photo blog
To encourage the business side of my photography I have vowed that all subsequent gear will be paid using photo revenue.
Some of you have accomplished GREAT things in 2007, very jealous, congratulations all around! |

congrats to all those great accomplishments! may the next year be even better!!
i managed to stay fairly busy ;-)
so far this year,
i worked 187 out of 343 days (which is really 3 out of every 4 work days)
i've handled almost 300 jobs
i've had over 1100 images published by clients
i've shot over 140,000 frames
i've had some regional magazine covers
i won some awards for last year's work
all in all, it was a good year, and things are trending in the right direction.
outside of work, there's more things to be grateful for than to complain about. |

Only my second post on this site, and things are already getting personal. First - congratulations to everyone who went through some rough times and got through them this year. And congratulations to everyone that achieved some major goals.
Here's me - it's been one of the most interesting years of my life for sure:
- Started the year with Grandma having a heart attack
- February, got a new job and got out of the hell job that I had despised for the last two years
- Was still dealing with a breakup from last October, some tough spots with that one
- April, started dating a friend of a couple years
- Summer, dating got more serious, helped to deal with Grandma's health issues because I was happy with my personal life
- End of summer/September, moved in with the new boy and another couple, moved Downtown (yay! Been a goal for the last 5 years!), started a new job at a non-profit (yet another goal accomplished)
- Last couple months, settling in to new place and new job, loving my new man insanely, dealing with Grandma's last few days with us. Somehow managing to be deliriously happy while dealing with one of the saddest times in my life. Life's crazy!
- Happy to be finally starting to be involved in DPC. :) |

First off. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in March of 07. It is now Dec. 07 and I have completely reversed this disease through a controlled diet and LOTS of exercise. I feel so much better. My blood pressure and cholesteral readings are way down too. Wow.
Secondly, trying to control the diabetes has left me 35 lbs lighter and feeling great! Now ain't that a bitch! :)
Thirdly, I have just completed & passed my highschool equivalency exam! (today) and can finally claim its benefits in my life.
Fourthly, I have decided to downsize my life, get a smaller house (actually a condo) and escape the trappings of a complicated life where I can travel more and spend less time cleaning, doing yardwork and storing crap.
How's that for a year? |
1st i want to say Congratz!! on the taking control of your life and controling your issue...=)
well i added a new addition to my family... my little boy Aiven (jan.10th will be 1yr old) and thats all i have to say he is my 1st child and that is enough for me for this year....=)
other stuff is work.. ill be going over nights and it will be a more laxed than workign days.. kinda excite ( about the pay that is) but i will miss the night that i spend cuddling with my wife =) it is for 3 months ( our shift change every 3 months ) and if i like it ill probly stay =) |

My year?
Fell down my basement stairs, broke my arm and my leg-looked all black adn bluish...
Met someone who has turned into my best friend.
Cried as my son moves to Wyoming.
Went and visited and fell in love with Wyoming.
Had a doctor appt - found out i have HIGH HIGH thyroid levels ( and had to have tests up the wazoo..but its not cancer or nodes), had a pap smear thats off, and have an appt for that...had a mammogram that showed a lump - Met a great doctor who did a core biopsy that ended up being cancer.. and a needle biopsy under my arm that turned out benign...
off I went to a MRI to make sure nothing else was there.... and found out there was another lump
had an MRI guided core biopsy Tuesday, and will see Monday if its cancer also.
So ... 2007 sucked in some ways....and was wonderful in many others.
I learned my faith in God is stronger than i realized. and I realized that by reaching out there are many who are supporting me!
Bless you all if you had a bad year, and congrats to those who had a wonderful year!

2007... hmmm... not a massive change for me... but I guess I'll see once I make this list...
* Started the year visiting a friend in Japan
* Back to Korea where I spent all my time until March
* Bought my D200
* Travelled to Syria and Singapore (both for the first time)
* Went back to see my family in Australia for a time and caught up with some fiends
* Came back to Korea and took back my old job (regretting that now)
* Made my way to Japan for a bit of a photography tour for a week or so
*To top it off, I'll spend new year's in Beijing this year
When said like that it seems like a lot, but I feel I've only achieved a fraction of what I wanted to, so next year it is... |

2007 was a great year for me business wise. I booked and photographed 14 weddings, 1 radio award ceremony, carols by candlelight on this coming wednesday, Oyster Festival Ball plus loads of other stuff
On an equipment level, I have become whats known as a "gear whore" LOL. and sooooooooo proud of it.. See above for how I paid for it all
To everyone who has had illness during the year or are continuing to deal with illness, my very best wishes and thoughts are with all of you.
Merry Christmas to all! (((((((hugs)))))))) |

I've watched this thread for days trying to think of how to respond. 2007 has been life shaking to say the least. I started the year working on a project that took me from south Texas to Switzerland and Denmark (my first trek out of the states). Finished that up to go see the family in late May, then ended up going less than two weeks later to the funeral of the last person who raised me. Using her estate as a spring board, I left a successful programming position to buy a declining mall studio. The rest of the year has been spent turning it from a bright yellow and blue snapshot box in a mall, into what at least LOOKS like a real studio. Next year is going to be just crazy as we throw every effort into marketing and building a profitable business. And on top of that we'll have our first grandson toward the end of January.
Hard to know whether it's been a good year or a bad one. As many others are I am deeply hurt by loss, but finally doing something I've wanted to do a long time...
