Thanks for that absolutely correct comment, Tim.

ETA:
You have rated 59 of 60 images (98%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 59 images (98%) in this challenge.

Woudn't it be cool, if every entrant commented on at least half of all the other entries?

I agree - I reckon that at least 28 of the 60 entries have commented on this thread, so howabout sitting down and getting some comments out against even half the shots ?

This is such a small challenge that it would only be 30 comments.

My current stats are

You have rated 43 of 60 images (72%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 35 images (58%) in this challenge.

My score stinks - but I really like the image and can't wait to explain it after the fact...it seems I did not reach the voters...my bad

I finished voting and commenting. Some very good and creative shots - Nice work everyone.

You are quite welcome - my comments were honest and I did not pull punches. I really think people in the challenge had a pretty creative take on the theme and some really nice and diverse approaches resulted - a small but well done challenge.

I'm in the bizarre position of having 3 favourites and 5.7 - how does that work ??!!

People are clearly not in the festive spirit when it comes to dishing out marks . . come on folks - it's nearly Christmas !!

Enough of the stinginess and Bah Humbug, lets have a little genrerosity and spread that love :- )

So I'm ahead of you now, Steve - wonder what has happened in the meantime. Well, guess we'll share the comfortable space on page 2 then - 5 seems to be the new 6.

BTW, thanks for your comment, 11 of the other 17 commenters agree with you - 5 say the exact opposite -
I'm really enjoying this challenge :)

I have a similar issue - a number of very positive comments, and some people just not getting it at all. Hey ho . .

I'm still astonished at the scores though - I think anything above a 6 is going to be front page !

I bet you are sorry...I am sure you guys were hanging to see some nekkid chicks draped over the bonnet of the cars..lmao!!

I've been a car freak my entire life and I *still* don't get that.

What the heck do pretty women have to do with a car?

Most of my best friends are women, and they don't seem to want to look at pictures of copol cars with half-nekkid guys draped over them.

They see that a truly cool car is beauty in its own right.

People lose their looks.....a truly great car design *never* does!

Very pleased with my current score. Especially since I took the road less traveled. That and its out of the 4's.

HOLY CRAP for the first time during this challenge I FINALLY broke into the 6's. I would like to thank all the people that gave me their 4's and 3's and who ever gave me the 1... Well I'll buy you a new pair of glasses.

Dude!!!!

*NEVER* let the voters dictate your dream!

I've sold probably 50 prints of a shot that was on the front page of a local small newspaper, and it kind of launched my career in this area.

It's a statement about clashing philosophies together in a strange stolen moment, and it got a low 5 when I entered it in a challenge.

By the time that I had entered it, it had already circulated here and gained me some local celebrity, so I knew that the voting was a reflection on strictly the image's merits and not the story behind it.

In more cases than not, truly good photography does get a helping hand from the story.

So......IMNSHO, I would never gauge my level of competency by the way the voters view my work......that's merely my slice of humble pie for dessert!.......8>)

I have seen many people with skills we'd as a collective rate 5 or less have very successful photography careers. A lot of it has to do with how you work with people and capture the image your client wants. Join a local photography club and get some prints in their faces for their review. Talking one on one with another photographer about what your picture's strengths and weaknesses are will go a long way to improving your work.-danny

What he said!.........8>)

Seriously, my work has improved so much since getting here I wouldn't know where or how to start explaining it. But it has NOT been from entering the challenges......it's been from being a member of a side team, being involved in the side challenges/projects, and that ever-so-important one-on-one, even in a virtual sense, with another photographer.

I learned something about cars in this challenge that I wasn't aware of and I like top think I'm pretty much in touch with the car world.

The thing is, this place has the ability to challenge us all to really push ourselves out of our comfort zone, to try to satisfy a need that cannot be defined, and make us reach like no other place or client can.

There are some days I just want to pound my head in frustration with what my score is doing, and others I just stare and laugh.

After a little over a year and a half and 67 challenges, I still have no freakin' clue as to a guaranteed winning formula (Short of moving to Iceland, anyway.....) and yet I still feel like I'm a pretty decent photographer who is always looking to improve.

I voted 37 images in THIS challenge a 6 or better, only one 10, but as someone described earlier, I wouldn't change this image one iota, and I faved it!

Coming from a 30+ year automotive background, and specifically, classic, antique, and high performance cars, that's really saying something.

Well good luck to you all. I have been DQ'd for some bullshit
12/13/2007 09:31:15 AM · #149
Well I was at 6.2 through the first 1.5 days of voting, would have been a PB if it held. Seems like every time I refresh now my score is dropping.

I'm getting some conflicting comments also, I guess its a love or hate image.
