Fellow DPCers...somewhere around you, in a park or a town green or some other place suitable are a bunch of musicians with silly bent shaped instruments known as the tuba family. They are usually stuck playing oom-pahs in the back of the band. But during the holiday season, they band together to play Christmas Carols and celebrate the awesomeness of the low brass section. If you hear about Tuba Christmas in your area, you just have to check it out. It is like no other holiday concert you can ever hear!
Today, PGerst, icdp2, my son Charlie, and I got a chance to join about 80 other tuba players and celebrate this great holiday season.
Here are a few pictures from the event.

Good stuff, bassbone! I'll definitely be on the lookout for something like that in my neck of the woods. :)
You've done a great capturing the spirit of the day! |

The one in our area was last night. My daughter (the band geek) wanted to go, but couldn't because of other plans. I hear they are lots of fun though.

Its amazing how widespread this is. icdp2 has done it the past few years. He got me into this. I had time this year so I decided to join. Knowing that bassbone played trombone, I sent him an email in case he was interested. He then told me he was going and had done it last year!
Small world....big event.....
Do I hear a DPC - Tuba Christmas GTG??

Cool stuff and great photos! Did you see any helicons or other really old tubas at the Atlanta event? We had a couple helicons and even a ophicleide (a brass instrument with button like a sax but with a tuba mouthpiece)

No need to duck...I can't hurl a tuba as far as those tiny trumpets..
