Hello,

I have a shot that works well with the zoom blur feature in photoshop. I have layered out a portion that will not be blurred while the background will be zoom blurred.

I can't seem to find a definite answer in the forums or rules to see if this is legal in advanced editing.

Anyone know?

Edit:

Here is a past example:

EDIT: Added my pic in question...below.

It has been DQ'd before. If it's adding an element, such as motion, you are probably in dangerous ground.

Your best bet is to submit a ticket for an unofficial SC ruling.

"You may not... use ANY editing tool to create new image area, objects or features (such as lens flare or motion) that didn’t already exist in your original capture."

Joey posted an entry with added motion since those rules were implemented?

Just to clairify...the photo in my OP would be a DQ in the current advanced rules?

Oh well then...here is what I had in mind. Good thing I asked!

What do you think anyway?

Very effective use of blur (but also a surefire DQ).

My first reaction, upon seeing the photo, was that the zoom blur was overdone. However, as I continued to look at it, the player almost jumped off the screen at me. Really well done picture IMO.

Can I threadjack and ask if it's OK to use brushes such as "Wings" that uses whatever colors are selected to make a wing? Would this be OK in Advanced? Expert? Or does this fall under the rule quoted above?

I think it would be ok only in expert editing.

That would almost certainly be a DQ, too. That would be creating a new feature. The rules are designed to prevent people from "inventing" elements of a shot that weren't there in the original.

I didn't mean it would be a DQ in Expert. There's not a whole lot that's illegal in Expert... sorry I didn't specify that I meant in Advanced it would be illegal.
