If you were to do that for this photo wouldn't you need two cameras? Seems like you would want the same identical pose from opposite directions. |
one camera, do the first set of poses, make the photo, print the picture, then do the second set and then the third and merge them together. simple shot but very time consuming in the editing area |

From the photographer's site
In response to one of the comments at reddit, the images from both angles were taken at the exact same time, I used two cameras on tripods that were synched up. This way I didn't have to try to reposition myself multiple times in all those positions.

The photographer does some really incredible work and seems quite humble. His first attempt has me more baffled then this one.

Another master of multiplicity (Some adult content at site)Kelli Connel
There are about 40 photographs at her site. The first time I visited I thought there were only 7. I believe her photographs can currently be found at 3 galleries. |

those paradoxii photos are pretty stunning. I will say though that if the shots are taken at exactly the same time, it would actually make it marginally easier... A pair of Rebels with an IR remote would be a nice setup I would guess. |

I'm guessing that's what he did.

So now we're agreeing it's him and his friends, right? Not all him, just two shots?

I don't think so. I think it's all multiple exposures of himself; he just did every shot from two angles so he had himself in the same position for both directions, for when he created the composite.

They all look like the same person to me and if so it's way more impressive than the other examples in this thread.

Ah. I misread that quote from him to mean "there was one set of double images." I guess there were many of them. Very, very clever.
I'm a gonna have ta try this when they approve [thumb]Leroy's suggestion for a multiple-personality challenge[/thumb].

They are all the same person, it's only him in the picture. I believe the term for this type of photography is multiplicity. I found that to be the common word used throughout several portfolios from various artist.
The picture was taken in 2006, I am guessing he (Mark Lee) still had his Canon Powershot S2. I am not sure if he used them to capture the Paradox photos. He would have to have borrowed at least one more camera, it's possible he borrowed two.
This was a great learning experience, Thanks Jason for starting this post! |
