I got Photoshop CS a couple days ago. I had been using Elements. CS is pretty nice.

From what I am reading on Adobe's site it is just for CS, however I do believe that for those who had purchsed the RAW Plug-in for 7.0, Adobe was (is?) offering a discount on the upgrade to CS that I THINK was about equal to the value of the plug-in. Don't quote me on this last, I'm over 40 and youknow hwat they say about the memory... not what was I talking about??

For the people who own Capture One DSLR and Photoshop CS - which are you using ? I'm in the process of switching to just Photoshop as it seems to offer everything I could need - any thoughts ? |

I've only tried Capture One, and liked the results. Don't like having to move between programs, though. I use PSCS regularly, and love the integration.
The three professional photographers I know who shoot digital all swear that C1DSLR gives better results, but concede that the differences are very small. Basically, they like Phase One's built-in camera profiles better than the ones Adobe came up with.

That's just what I'm comparing right now - I've never been very happy with what phase One does to reds on my D60 using their profiles, or ones I've corrected - reds end up quite orangy, compared to reality.
I think there was a 'bug' in the original ACR 2.0 - in that the shadows slider defaults to 0, when it should actually be set to 'something' around about 5 for a half way decent result. |

I'm curious about your comments on the shadow slider. I've always used the exposure and shadow sliders with the "alt" key, to check and see when, where, and in what channel clipping started to occur. I'd never considered there to be a "correct" default value.
As to your comments about the profiles, I've heard similar. Having only used C1DSLR a few times, I can't corroborate, but I'm very happy w/ the results ACR gives me. |

Have you checked out Magne Nilsen's replacement camera profiles for C1? |

Apparently a lot of people didn't change the shadow value from the default 0. It was supposed to be at some value generally, other than zero.
The default is now 5. |

Nope, I haven't. But I have pretty much convinced myself that ACR does everything I need in a more integrated and faster way, so I think I'll just stick to Photoshop CS for a week or two and see how it goes. |
