Ok ,I plan on buying a 580EX, to save on shipping I want to buy a diffuser with it. I would like to hear about your impressions of the lightsphere and the waletail diffuser. I am looking for something to use as fill flash and also to bounce.
Thank You |

Lightsphere - not impressed overall. It's decent in tight locations, but in larger rooms with high ceilings, no.
Personally, I much prefer the Lumaquest softbox, or Lumaquest ProMax System.

| Second vote for Lumiquest. I use their 80-20 bouncer with my 580EX. |

It's a very flexible system. You should be good to go :-)

| I was at my daughters school music show taking pics when I kept seeing half the room fill with a flash. This guy had this diffuser looked a bit different. It was a plastic alcohol bottle. He is professional photographer locally. He told me they had tried every diffuser out there but this outdid them all. Basically you get an alcohol bottle that is opaque (not clear or white) and cut off the top, put some reflective tape inside on the back, use some Velcro and "Bam" you've got an awesome diffuser for next to nothing. It does work great. |

But it taste so much better from glass :-D
BTW, the Lightsphere works well for serving chips and dip during your shoot.

Rubbing alcohol. Try drinking that stuff and you'll have serious gas pains. Ouch.
I', tellin you this thing works. Doesn't hurt to try, esp. for the $.

My biggest beef with my Fong lighsphere is that it's so big it takes up way too much room in my bag. :-/
I prefer using it upright and with the lid on, especially under low ceilings, to get some more fill and not so much under-eyebrow-shadow. This is contrary to Gary's instructions. I do like the results, but I have no experience with any other products to compare with.
Still, the next time I see a more compact model lightsphere, I'll probably buy it. The Fong one is just too big to pack along.
