This sounds like it could be fun! Looking at a past Challenge Stopped Motion lll and the photos look intriguing. Now to see what can be done. No motion trails....hmmmm!

Actually, I think (at least to me) Stopped action is easier than motion trails or panning, given enough light.

Crank the shutter speed up and find a good subject and wala.

Motion trails or panning blur takes a bit of experimenting, skill and coordination to pull off.

Either way, I hope to see some good stuff in this challenge.

I'll bet there will be a ton of stopped water/liquid droplets, which is harder than it looks. You have to have the right stobe timing and many takes.

OK, yeah, water droplet shots are hard :-)

The motion trails part of this (or no part...whatever) is where I wonder...

There is an effect that I have always called the "Rockford Effect". On the TV show, Rockford stood still in a crowd of moving people...created all of these motion-trailing-people...and he was clear and...well..un-trailed.

I think part of my problem (besides the fact that I have a hard time thinking outside of film post processing and so on) that helps me maintain a relatively low score on the Challenges is my innate inability to completely understand the challenge description until AFTER the voting has begun.

Leroy... I take it that the so called Rockford Effect is a no-no here? Where there would be no trails on him...just everything else moving. Hmmm... did I just answer my own question? Sheesh...what a dweeb!

I do believe you did. :-)

Since the challenge description specifically states, "no motion trails", then I would suspect that type of image would get the dreaded DNMC votes.

Well... I do think you found the nail with the hammer! Thank you! Hopefully this time I can break the 5.0 barrier with a higher score.

Thanks all!

Bloody hell, I am probably going to shoot a stop motion photo this week for my PAW and it´s going to look extremly cool if I can pull it off but I need expert editing for it to be legal on DPC.

Last stopped motion challenge I did the avon descent. Cool effect, edited it terribly - didnt have PS - scored poorly. No sporting event here to do now, I'll actually have to think about this one.

This is a nice example of Stop Action.
