trevytrev (Trevor), do you know if the newer ones (assuming the stores carry new ones) have the same problem? I'm about ready to make the plunge, but I hate defective hardware.
buzzrock (Tim), I played & finished Psychonauts on PS2. I thought it was a bit childish, especially at first, then it got more interesting, but it sort of fell apart near the end, as if less care was taken with the final scenes. But worth a look, and some genuine weirdness in places. |

My failure was NOT the Red circle of death, it was simply an optical drive failure. I could still play games that were on the HD and still watch movies.
But, the rest of the process was just like you said, MS sent a box, I shipped off my Xbox and waited for what seemed like an eternity. When it came back, I did get a free month of Xbox Live Gold, so they at least tried to make up for it. |

Wow, no red circle. Funny side note, when I took the xbox to the local UPS store to ship it, I already had it packed in the box that microsoft supplied. I walked in the door and the guy behind the counter looks at me then the plain white box I had in my hand and he says "Red circle of death huh?" I asked him how he knew and he said that he will get on average 5 to 10 a day that he has to ship and he is used to the box now. He already had an address in his computer where it was to be shipped. That's pretty crazy! |

I had a Launch Day Premium that RROD'd on me... I was in the middle of playing the Superbowl in Madden. I ran out and got me a core and slapped my harddisk on it and continued. Got my original back and got me another HD for the core. Great for when buddies come over and I don't want to play split screen or put 2-4 peeps in the den and have 2-4 in the living room choose system link and you are reaking havoc (requires 2 copies of whatever game you are playing).
The thing to remember with these things (Pray Station 3 included) is there is a lot of Processor power inside a small box. 360 has (3) Dual Cores and PS3 is like 9 Cells... Do not put em in a Stereo cabinet, Bookcase with no air flow etc... The power supply for the 360 is external, keep that thing in an open area by itself, keep it cool.
PS3 same thing. When it launched they had em stuffed in an enclosed kiosk in the stores...funniest thing I've ever seen, you could go into any store and there would be a crashed PS3 on display.
Note to those thinking of having two 360's. Get one of the 512M memory units. Keep your XBL account, and currently playing game saves on it. If you have XBL (gold) it can only be in one place at a time. Otherwise you will be constantly recovering you Gamertag when you switch between consoles.

I am not sure but I think they figured it out and addressed the issue. From what I heard it was a matter of the xbox overheating and essentially melting the solder on the board thus causing problems. Now this is all from a buddy who claims he researched it and this is what he found, take it with a grain of salt and it could just be bullshit but he's a big tech nut. I will say that I played the crap out of my box before I had the problem. I can't guarantee that they have it fixed the issue but I would guess that they have since they have been losing their asses on replacing the hardware and paying for shipping.
My Manufacture date was May 06 or something, i can't remember since I no longer have that box.

i read it had something to do with the type of solder used. they have regulations on the amount of lead and toxic chems that get used in electronics.
apparently the solder used was cracking under intense heat, where lead solder wouldn't.

GTA4 is awesome..... I love the music!!!! And in the game I went on my first date and went bowling which is also pretty good in the game. Then I played darts with your cousin in the game which is good as well. The driving I like it alot its seems more real and the cars sound really well.
lol car jack a guy and watch him get mad and grab the door handle then hit the gas and he will hang on, if you want to be mean while he is hanging on hit your side of the car against another.
The controls are great I am just getting use to them cause I have been playing all the other GTA's on playstation, I find myself sometimes using the PS2's controls.
The resolution is amazing as well, so far I like the story line and the using the whole cell phone thing in the game.
BTW - have not tried multiplayer yet

I have logged about 15 hours on GTA 4 mostly on live. The game is the best I have ever played. The driving is awesome, shooting is awesome, flying helicopters is very cool (especially at night) the story in the main game so far has been great, missions are pretty easy at first but that is normal for GTA games in the past so nothing new there. They have added some Tombraider type actions climbing and a new tumble roll.
I have played alot of team missions online which has been absolutely awesome. Except for when I hop into a car with someone who just cant drive. That is an easy way to die.
offline I have gotten about as far as digitalpins. So far I love it and am really glad I made the effort to get it early vs waiting to hear what the rest of the world has to say about it, which I usually do. |

Well somebody had to disagree, I guess its me--
GTA4 is fun, but its no where near a 10/10, or the best game Ive ever played..
This first thing that stands out is the driving, how can a title with Auto in it has such bad driving controls, seriously unless you putt around or have a straight line without any traffic, the cars are all over the damn road.. Second, the framerate drops down in some places, not enough to really affect gameplay, but its really noticeable..
The half press trigger to "Free Aim" Seems really clunky right now, but I'm sure Ill get used to that..
With all that said GTA4 is a blast to play, although I hail cabs now instead of driving when I can (alot of missions require you to drive).. The story seems good, and there are alot of funny moments, you just have to love crude humor, why else would you play the game if you didn't though--
And these are all just initial reactions-- I haven't played the game only but 5 hours or so, so I'm sure there are ton of funs things to come, but the driving will still be the same-- thats my biggest complaint--
Ive been a a date, went bowling, the mini game is cool, I still have to check out more bars, and get to Honkers, the side stuff like that is fun when you don't wanna do a mission.
I have't tried multi yet either..
Well off to play GTA4, lol-- It is a blast to play-- but no perfect game.. |

Maybe GTA4 spoilers.....
So far I love GTA4 I think its the best yet... I would give it a 10/10 just awesome. I have not beat it yet but I pretty well into the game, I used the computer in the cop car for the first time a couple of day ago and then last night I used it again and figure out how to do the cop missions and to catch the criminals, which is awesome, I love using the computer in the cop car.
lol anybody get ejected from the car....lol I was flying on a bridge and ran into something I hear screaming and I notice I am flying through the air...

This weekend I got a 20 minute preview of GTA IV at my neighbor's apartment (he has the PS3 version). The driving was more difficult than expected, but it has increased my desire to upgrade to a next generation console. He also has a killer HDTV -- just beautiful. I'm definitely behind the times. |

Yup I gotz to get back to some R6V2 online, I got and play GTA4 a bit nice but I am not blown away with that one...for 2/3s of the game being driving the driving could have been a whole lot better... car control totally sux compared to the real driving games.
Been playing Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian all night with the Wife. Pretty cool, pretty easy. Can be 2 player Co-op; 2nd player can jump in and out when they want. Fun watching the Wife hack and slash. Goes from hack and slash (hundreds of people around you) to wandering around trying to figure puzzles (adventure game style) out.
It's an easy game that pretty much follows the book.
I sense I'll be in R6 tomorrow. Soup, you make officer yet?

Me and some of my friends have been doing alot of boat and helicopter racing on live. Free Race mode is a blast if you have more than 3 or 4 players.
