Gearz is awesome and Left 4 Dead I played the demo lol that was just awesome as well..... I agree the 360 controller is so much better and I have been a Playstation fan since PS1 but I got a 360 and just loved it. The controller is much easier on my hands no aches or pains in my thumbs.
I also love the whole xbox live the thing its great.... at first I did not agree with the whole paying thing but again not that expensive

Ahh well, I don't really enjoy or play sports video games. If I want to play soccer, I'm going to go to the park with some like-minded people.

I feel like I get more than my money's worth out of it, and it really is pretty inexpensive. | |

i've never used a PS3 - maybe xbox live has a more robust online experience ? ie: less lag, better matchmaking, more options.

Xbox live is better, and I'm a born and raised Sony man. But the majority of the people that play online on PS3 are just little elitist punks. Where as since the xbox live community is better, there are more recreational online gamers there that are more enjoyable to play with. the live feed from xbox is about the same.

WEll hell-- I have to send my 360 in for repair-- what bad timing-- 1 day after i got RB2 and during xmas :(
My optical drive is broke-- google "open tray error"
Basically it wont read any discs -- it attempts to spin and then acts if nothing is in the drive, just says "open tray"--
I can right now hit eject for about 5 minutes (sliding the drawer in and out) and a game might load-- but the drive is F*&^ked
Still under warranty though-- my prepaid shipping box will be here in 3 days-- then I wait-- hoping it only takes 2 weeks |

Awful timing! Mine broke during the Christmas holidays last year - must be the cold! What happens if you try to install a game?
If you got the drums with RB2 try drumming along to youtube videos, its surprisingly fun :P I did it on the table before RB was released over here in Europe :)

mine had to be sent in not long ago. i had it back in under two weeks. shipping from vermont to texas and back. and the repaired it, not replaced it. same SN# on the returned unit.
one option. buy the arcade version, plop your current hard drive in it, and then give the arcade one as a gift when you get the other one back ;}
that's what i did. didn't open anything but the console itself/.

Couldn't wait any longer, I picked it up last week. I'm through the prelude to war, but I'm stuck trying to defend D.C. The interface is completely different from anything I've played before. The voice command is good and I've found that you can give some orders by voice and others with the controller to speed things up, but I'm not comfortable with it yet. The one bad thing about the voice command thing is that I get excited and louder when the game gets more intense, so I can't really play when the kids are asleep...

yeah - i don't have kids to keep up, and the dogs seems to be able to sleep through anything ... ;}
one thing i have a hard time with is telling the enemy units apart. so i end up attacking tanks with tanks, or transports with transports... it might be the TV is too far away from the couch. maybe my camera usage....
we have a 42" TV about 10feet from the couch... maybe it's my old eyes...

BTW - i hadn't noticed because it came out while i was in europe, but there is a free map pack for R6V2. reworks of current maps. DL'd but haven't tried them yet. i think one is murder town in the dark... it is hard enough in the daylight....
there's also two map packs for R6V1 if you have that one...
and you can DL to the xbox from xbox.com when you're logged in. a bit easier to peruse what's available IMO.

I was playing Murdertown-dark last night, on realistic, with more enemies to boot. It definitely adds another wrinkle to it.
I think the other maps were Streets-dark and the Calypso Casino, imported from R6V1. Both are good.

I have a 46", maybe 8ft from my seat and I have the same problem. Tanks on Tanks or Transports on Transports isn't so bad, but I like to attack everything with helicopters and the transports just shred them.

I've been sucked into Fallout 3 lately. Bad.
At first, I had a hard time getting into it. The learning curve was a bit steep (I'd never played a Fallout game before), and I found it pretty difficult. Ammo was hard to come by, I was dying all the time, I couldn't seem to aim properly, VATS seemed to be worthless.
Then something changed. I started slowly creeping up in levels, got a few quests under my belt, started learning the tricks of scavenging, and started having a little more fun.
Now, I'm hopelessly hooked. Right now I'm trying desperately to find Rivet City (Please, no hints!), and spent 4 hours (real life time), wandering the maze that is downtown DC, getting no closer to Rivet City, fighting endless waves of Super Mutants, and watching the massive amounts of stimpacks and ammo I'd built up get wittled down to almost nothing. Finally, after navigating a subway station in the hopes that it would take me anywhere closer to my goal, but only ending up half-a-city north of where I wanted to go, I finally fast-travelled back to Megaton and gave up for the night.
Now I'm aching to get back to it, but was called in to work for a couple of hours (being laid off but still being on-call = annoying). Must... not... look... up... directions to... Rivet... City. |

lol sounds addictive but in a good way. I'll end up getting this for xmas but my son will get hooked too and that isn't good. I may end up buying another xbox since his is going in his room after new year's day. I'll wait until the new motherboards with the new GPUs are being shipped by MS though.
I've been playing Gears on hardcore and yup, it's still a good game, a lot harder but fun.
REVIVE ME! I get that more too. lol

Apparently they're already starting to show up out there.
There's a way to check. When you look at the box, check the Amperage (which is on the back just above the "made in china" tag.) If it is 12.1 Amps, it is the new Jasper chip. |

Good to know. I'll be picking mine up in the new year so there should be plenty of them around after stores restock.
I heard MS was waiting for after xmas to ship but that could have changed because of high sales maybe?

hmm.. so they have a new board with flash memory installed - so the NXE will run smooth w/o the need for an HD... pointless IMO. sell the arcade unit with a 2gig HD......(better yet a 2gig memory unit ) if yer cheap yer cheap... i don't see any thing about the issues with the heat sync clamps warping the mainboard being resolved..
sounds like another round of bad units, and warranty bitching...
ETA: BTW - a single wall outlet ( that's both plugs on the outlet, and any other power tied to the same breaker ) allow 15 amps of juice through. so the xbox is sucking up almost all of that. keep in mind plugging it in to a power strip, or other type thing where your amplifier, TV and lamps are sucking juice off the same plug/circuit.
low voltage kills electronics more than the dreaded - SURGE.
your surge protector contraption doesn't help when you have 8amps of the required 12.1 feeding the device - because other equipment is using the other 7 amps...

Yes, but I'd wager the steady state current draw is much lower than the transformer's rating. When I used to be involved with such things, it's unheard of to have a steady state current draw anywhere near the transformer's rated current. |

yeah - i know. we have 130amp of breakers on 100 amp service...
just something to keep in mind when you have a 200w surround system, and big screen TV, and xbox and lamps, etc. all running off the same 15amp circuit.
i bet when the animation starts lagging in a single player game that xbox is drawing near max power... i could test it, but i'd have to open the box up... or use one of those clamp style multimeters. ( and i don't have one of those... )
i've seen a lot of 12amp draw pool pumps die because they are plugged into a shared circuit. they run, hot, and then seize up. one guy had his pump plugged into a garage outlet. his father in law was running his RV off another outlet in the garage. ( same breaker though ) AC, oven, TV.. etc. he wondered why it wasn't covered under warranty because it was less than one ( vermont ) season old...

here's and interesting quote from CNET abotu the power hungriness of the 360.
Originally posted by cnet: We tested the 'box using Extech's MA200 power meter, which gives real-time power consumption results. It turns out that the Xbox 360 draws about 160 watts of power, over twice as much as the original Xbox, which draws 74 watts, and the PlayStation 2, which draws about 50. In fact, the great white beast chomps down more electricity than almost every piece of living room electronics we tested, including the JVC RX-D702 A/V receiver, the Denon DVD-3910 DVD player, and a DirecTV HD TiVo. The only pieces of A/V gear that draw more power than the 360 are big-screen high-definition TVs.
Playing Xbox 360 for an average of four hours a day will eat up about 233 kilowatt-hours per year. Depending on where you live, that's an annual bill of $10 to $35 for the Xbox 360 alone. Of course, the Xbox 360 isn't as big a power hog as a refrigerator or an oven, but it uses more than double the electricity of any other game console on the market. The Xbox 360 may be twice as pretty as its predecessor, but it's also twice as hungry.
