A Mondegreen is is the mishearing (usually accidental) of a phrase as a homophone or near-homophone in such a way that it acquires a new meaning. (according to Wikipedia)
How about a challenge where the photo represents a misheard lyric to a song? Such gems could be included such as:
Queen: Bohemian Rhapsody
Correct lyric: Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me...
Misheard lyric: The algebra has a devil for a sidekick eeeeeeeeee...
or
Elton John
Correct lyric: Hold me, tiny dancer
Misheard lyric: Hold me, Tony Danza
Or
Paul Simon
Correct lyric: You can call me Al
Misheard lyric: You can call "Meow!"
Or one of my personal favorites from my husbands ex-wife:
Bon Jovi - You Give Love a Bad Name
Correct Lyrics: Shot through the heart, and your to blame. You give love a bad name.
Misheard lyrics: Shot through the heart, and your so lame. You give love a bad name.
Other inspiration could be found here:
The Archive of Misheard Lyrics
Snopes Holiday Mondegreens
The Mondegreen Wiki
The title should represent the incorrect lyric, and the songs title. Maybe? There may be a better idea out there as to how that should work.
Any thoughts? |

Classic misheard lyrics by my wife:
Pearl Jam "Glorified G"
Lyrics: "Glorified version of a pellet gun"
Misheard: "Bona fide virgin and a pelican"
My worst was when I friends in high school heard me singing "quilt of personality" instead of "cult of personality" |

Instead "cheap wine and a three day whore" (hope thats right), a friend of mine use to sing, "Cheap wine and a three legged goat." I know it doesn't sound too similar but in the song it actually does.

I don't have a specific example to cite, but I was just discussing the idea of Mondegreens with my son just the other day -- interesting coincidence and an interesting idea. |
