The group of people who were on this boat made it to the US soil. All the Cubans who are intercepted before they step on land are taken right back to Cuba. The 4th of July, the US independence day is one of the most popular times for them to make the crossing. Many people attempting this journey die in the ocean, and all who make the crossing are leaving friends and family behind. Independence is important to them, and they willingly pay the high price.
