I have been looking around for some tripod recs and found this article interesting on what to do when they get water & gunk & whatnot.
What catches the eye is this image.... These pair would be classed in the fanatical end of the field I suspect but they guy on the left only needs someone to pee in the lake and he would be under :-)
Edit: Dropped the hotlink image; hit the link and look at the image, it's worth a laugh or scare - It only lasted a few minutes before getting the no-hotlink image :-)

Great link. I was just wondering if anybody ever replaced the bolts and/or springs that go with the quick releases. Mine are starting to show some corrosion as I tend to do crazy things like these guys. I wonder where you get them though.

Someone needs to start a rubber pants product company for tripods.

Yeah well you put cameras in water too, so not sure I'm taking your advice on camera gear and water anytime soon :-)

I learned just how fast tide comes in when I was taking the series of shots that this photo came from.
I left it out there for a couple of the big waves, since I wasn't dressed to be standing waist high in the cold Oregon Pacific. The tide was also sinking my tripod in the sand. It was a valuable lesson, that long exposure shots while standing in the water aren't a good idea, especially when the ground below you goes out with each wave.
Closing the legs up was pretty hard with all the grit and sand, but I think I've got most of it out now, heh. Yay for old toothbrushes. |

Doc,
Whereabouts is the place you took this? Looks gorgeous. I'd love to day-trip there if it's a reasonable drive for me. |

Punchbowl falls on Eagle Creek. Exit 41 on the I-84 in Oregon. I was just there today to find, to my dismay, that the trail is closed due to a landslide. No word when it will reopen. |
