Can anyone give a detailed tutorial (or point me to a good website) describing how to effectively use unsharp mask?

Thanks in advance, Dan

seeing as you have the same camera - you could mess with some general settings. this is what i use 85% of the time
Amount - between 25 and 150
radius - between 0.2 and 0.8 px
threshhold - 0

it's usually the last step of any adjustments

view the image at 200% and look for hazing on the sharper edges, or in the noise. try to keep the adjustments to prevent the hazing.
if the photo has a lot of noise - you can use a threshhold setting of above 0
