One of my chickens is missing. No fox prints anywhere in the fresh snow. Looks to me like a hawk got her. Am I right? Wing span is about three and a half feet.

Hard to say. There's a better chance that a hawk got your chicken than an owl. However, not all owls are nocturnal hunters. By the size of the wingspan described, it could have been a medium sized hawk (red-tailed hawk or similar) or one of the larger owl species found in the eastern USA such as the Great-horned Owl. I am in no way a bird expert, juat an enthusiast, and this is my best guess.

Looks like a straight forward case of Alien Abduction to me...
