dead horse maybe, but it definately rings true. You can leave anytime you want and not have to look at another nude photo. It may be said over and over and over and over, but thats because it really is the simple solution to threads like this. Personally I think DPC is just fine the way it is, there is no porn and other than that there is very little restrictions which is exactly how a photography site should operate.

Sorry, shouldn't have gone there.
But, I see a bit of scripture twisting from your side too.
But, all in all.. lust is from within... if nudity is promoting lust, it is the viewer that has the problem.
as I stated before, a baby sucking mother's breast doesn't become aroused.

So.....what about the viewing challenges at work (or even away from work on a work computer / laptop) aspect of this request? Other than just saying don't vote at work, is there any solution? Just curious since the argument seems to have veered more into morality and less into job security. :) |

What because you are done you want the SC to lock the thread? Can dish it out but can't take it?
If all you wanted was people to agree with you, you should not have started this thread...

everyone knows the answer to viewing at work... you shouldn't. Same as you shouldn't be checking personal email or looking at porn at work. Your employer will find all of them equally inappropriate.
If you are lucky and don't have restrictions at work than just vote carefully and don't browse the nude gallery with a coworker looking over your shoulder.
Come on people, you all know you shouldn't be on DPC at work.
Gotta go, boss is coming.

But DPC is not Hustler or Playboy. They shoot for lust, we shoot for art. There is a world of difference. Nudity does not inspire lust, our brains do when we view a specific "kind" of photograph. It is all what you make of it. I agree that you have a right to not view a nude... scan the thumbs and mark the photograph before it, come out of the voting Que, skip to the next image, and go back in. It is hard to tell from a thumbnail exactly what an image contains, but you can usually get the gist of it. To be honest, I haven't seen a whole lot of nudes lately... |

Simple solution: Don't like what you see you can leave.
I for one am very tired of people claiming its DPC's fault for this content. I don't want to see pictures of puppies and flowers all the time. I want something that actually leaves me with something to think about or even better something to talk about.
This is art, nudity and photography have been closely related since the camera came to be. It takes a lot of talent to do nude photography well.
If you are viewing pictures with a child, you know that nudity could be present at any time so either scan first or don't allow the child to view with you.
At first I thought this site should be 18+, but now Im not so sure. The two threads this week about content have all been posted by adults who can't seem to handle provocative images. |
This site offers the protection to make the site fun for all types of photographers, all that was asked is if that protection could be extended to voting. The question is not whether nudity can be allowed on this site it is about enhancing a feature that is already there to allow for some level of protection they feel is appropriate to them. If someone does not like it yes they can go elsewhere but that would get rid of some really great people and if all they want is to have the right to not see a small percentage of the photos then why not allow them the choice? |

Anybody remember this post? Please take the current argument to rant and let's get back to whether nudes should be displayed despite checking the box.
My view is that they should be displayed for the voting fairness reasons outlined repeatedly above. Scores going up because they're skipped by people who hate a certain genre is unfair.
My response to cherrypicking is that we shouldn't be allowed to view thumbnails of shots we haven't voted on. At dailyawards.com, for instance, images come up at random and you don't get to choose which to vote on. If you skip one, you have no way of controlling when it comes up again.
That would allow people to go back and fine tune later, but not pick which ones to vote on.

Ah...but who is censoring now? I am basically my own boss and don't get paid by the hour. It is common for Realtors to take phone duty where we answer the phone for 2 hours at a time, hoping to connect with a new client. Yes, I can always find other things to do during that time, but if I want to vote, play a word game, browse Ebay...whatever - it has no bearing on my job performance.
However, that being said, it is the office's computer. No nudes allowed. All easy to avoid except for challenges. Another example might be those who travel and use a work laptop. If they have Internet access during their travel time / down time, why shouldn't they check email, dpc or whatever?
Just asking that the box that is already there work for challenges as well. I don't expect the change, really, but I support the request based not on subjective morality, but rather due to common work policies.
I for one, fully enjoy looking at the nudes posted here for the most part. Some are just IMO bad photography...but that applies to any subject we have here. Others truely are breathtaking. |

Ok, realistic option.
Display the thumb of the next image in the queue on the current voting page and allow the voter to skip it.
I'm not supporting that, but it is an option.

This is a world-wide photography site -- it does not and need not conform to any particular set of religious values. It does conform to the applicable laws of the USA and the Commonwealth (State) of Virginia.
How it operates is published so you can read it before registering and participating. It is made clear that some of the content may not be suitable for some people or for minors, and that it is the responsibility of the user to take that into account in deciding whether/how to use the site. |

As far as photos getting higher scores, I tend to vote a quick 4 or 5 on the nudity scores just to get it off my screen in a hurry when I'm at work. Not because they aren't good but because I don't want to get caught with them on my screen and get fired. I tell myself that I will go back later and correct my vote but it's hard to find the time to do that.
While I don't feel that it is fair to the nudity shot to do this, I also don't think it is fair to over vote them just because they are on my screen either.
I would like to see a flag, |

But how would an individual's choice to block nudes be any different than someone viewing them and then just not voting on them? And you're also assuming it's because someone hates a certain genre. I really enjoy the artistic nudes, just can't vote on them at work. |

The real issue is would it affect voting not religious values, I would tend to think the voting would not be swayed much if any at all. |

If its company property you shouldn't be on any of the things you mentioned. You cannot seriously be aruging that its OK to vote on DPC challenges at work or on work owned machines. I do it too, Im at work right now.
