He pays attention to light and uses it well.

very awsome shot, id say he was in the right place at the right time, looks to me like he is by an intersection, the shadows are created by buildings behind him, and the kida are lit up because the break in buildings. |

Good stuff. Great stuff! I'd bet that not a single image on that site would get over a 5.5 here. |

Yeah I think there is little dodging and burning. I think he exposes for the sun/sky so that the shadows fall dark. Then he looks for reflected light coming off of other buildings so that the subjects may be lit from natural light on there back and glowing reflective light on there face. Since this light is only reflecting off the windows it can seem like the light is digitally enhanced, but i don't think it is too much. Check out boysetsfire's civilians section of his portfolio as well as his street photos to seem great examples on DPC. |

Yah just a lot of attention to where the light is falling, I get the feeling that there isn't much dodging burning because that lighting situation seems plausible to me |

Harsh light, super-saturation, extreme contrast, are the main components here. The images are also VERY "smooth", whether because of equipment or judicious use of neat image I do not know.

just saw this..
thanks Joe :)
None of Trents work is photoshoped, besides tweaks when preparing prints.
He shoots with a Mamiya medium format film camera for his colour work. This shot is a fine example of reflected light. There really is something special about reflected light.

Would exposing for the sky and then photographing heavily lit (with areas of shade) streets produce a similar effect?
I will try it as soon as i get a day(s) out of the office |
