So how many "this is a flower in my garden" shots do you think there'll be in this challenge?

A few, also banking on quite a few bokeh shots. I'm off to some botanical gardens tomorrow.

It seems obvious, but it does bear pointing out that the challenge is "Flora" not "Floral"... |

Let's just say I'm planning on having a couple beers handy while I vote on this one.

Exactly. I'm hoping to see some diversity.

I'm really excited about my shot for this challenge. I went with something a little different and artistic (no flowers or bokeh!) so we'll see how it goes. Usually the shots I'm most proud of are the ones that totally tank, but I'm still hoping for the best! |

Man, it's going to be hard to pick a flower shot to enter... |

But aren't the "obvious" challenge descriptions the ones most likely for voters to misinterpret?
That sounds flip, but I an seriously worried about entering shots of trees or berries (still on the bush) that don't have any flowers because of possible DNMC backlash. |

does this have to be a fill frame of plant life or is there some latitude. can there be some evidence of human intervention. for example wild grass growing beside a railroad track |

There is no real "have to" here, it's up to you. However, know that whatever you do, however you interpret the challenge, you may still be slaughtered by the voters. That's how it is here.

Exactly, or if the non-plant object(s) in the picture appear as prominent as the plants, could you get marked down for having a DNMC subject?
I think (to use your example) it would need to be shot so that the RR track is obviously secondary, not a focal point. Maybe used as leading lines or background, but not a "subject" of the shot. Anything else could lower you score or be an outright DNMC.
I don't personally agree w/ this, but my voter-paranoia tells me this is what would happen, lol. |

What about landscapes? That would be a whole lot of flora, no? Just playing devil's advocate. Does "Flora" exclude landscapes? Or, as mentioned, other objects in the frame? Say flowers in a vase. Grass growing out of a wall. Herbs in a pot. What are your thoughts? |

I was wondering about trees being considered FLORA or not. Just for the whole DNMC backlash potential i may have to consider entering one.

from our wonderful resource, wiki-
The first meaning, or flora of an area or of time period, refers to all plant life occurring in an area or time period, especially the naturally occurring or indigenous plant life.
I sure hope voters use the broader and true meaning, not just flowers. And, yes, trees are flora. |

You may want to use brownsm's last sentence as your title - "Yes, Trees ARE Flora!" ;)
I may solve the problem by finding a dog or a squirrel... |

I meant by my post that the challenges wasn't limited to floral but should include all things that have to do with plants, whether having flowers or not... |

I am in for flora and mine will likely have little to do with a flower...I hope I don't get pounded for a mis-interpretation of the challenge |
