I've been considering joining DPC, and have a couple of questons.
-I want to be able to upload and buy my own prints, but I can't find base pricing anywhere.
-The "join" info says I would get 10MB for my "personal portfolio" for my 25 bucks. Do I (and others) order prints from the "personal portfolio" area, or is the portfolio upload area separate from the ordering area? I ask because images of enough quality to print 20x30's will eat 10MB in very short order. Am I missing something here? |

Thanks for the quick reply! That helped a lot.
(My opinion= that page should be available from the DPCPrints.com area!)

I had a similar question when I signed on a while back, and checked the FAQ at the link you give. While the FAQ does a great job of addressing most questions, I don't believe it answers the specific question posed by dbyrd. I may have missed it, but nowhere do I see where it states whether our 10MB quota includes the printable/saleable files.
From what I've experienced, however, the 10MB does not include those files.
As a followup, are there limits to the quantity of printable files I can upload (...from the FAQ the individual size limit is 16MB)?
Thanks,

for every printable file you want to upload, you HAVE to upload "an image placeholder" that goes against your 10MB. If you are printing only for yourself you could (technically) put a 1x1 pixel dot, make it a jpg and upload it with a name, then upload your printable file. as long as you know what it is, etc, you could have thousands of photos up.
For the public though, you want a decent resolution image fo rthem to see, then you you have to adjust your size vs resolution per the tutorial.

...As an example, if I wanted to upload 100 hi-res (16MB ea) printable images, ...and had 100KB "placeholder" versions of each (times 100 = my 10MB limit), that would be acceptable? |

Yes, that's approximately correct. In practice, the combination of slightly smaller image sizes (say 500-600 pixels on the long side) and slightly higher compression settings should get your placeholder images down closer to 50-75kb, letting you post maybe 200 prints.
Also, note that a printable image based on a challenge entry does not have to match the entry (you can re-edit all you want), and will not require a separate "placeholder" image which would count against your file space. The edited printable file will have a new preview image created automatically (also doesn't count against your space).
