HA! I like being in the smaller of the two challenges each week. My only problem is that I never seem to do well unless everyone else is doing well.

Oh guys!!! Is this the snapshot challenge? I've only seen one real portrait so far. YIKES.... (off to hopefully find some legitimate portraits to vote on)

Looks like everyone hates my picture as much as I do. I was experimenting, guess that was a bad thing. Oh well, I took a risk. I'll take my beating like a man; and not chicken out by Self DQ.

I saw a bunch of those too, Judy. There are some nice portraits.... but a lot of quick snaps too.

I have more votes in Group Portrait than I do in the Free Study or Half.

Nothing like a small field to bring out the voters. Some have been kinda trollish in the last 40 votes or so.

me too! only in this one the score keeps going down and it's finally coming up in the free study.

This just confirms my suspicion that I have absolutely no idea what people like on this site.

I have to agree that there is an overwhelming number of 'snapshots' in this challenge. I'm a little put off by them myself and I think it's throwing the scoring off for legitimate portraits.

However, there are also quite a few 'candid' and non-studio portraits (I know it's hard to grasp for some of you but not everyone here has a studio and dedicated lighting equipment at their disposal)

I think an important distinction needs to be made in that respect. Though, I agree that 'candids' of unsuspecting or unknowing people do not qualify as a portrait and deserve a DNMC; a non-studio, posed shot is still a portrait and be judge as such.

anyway,off my soapbox now....

Peaked at 7.45 at 50 votes, the last 50 votes were a bit harsher. Still thrilled with the score. Some real gems in there.

My score sucks... I just hope it is doing better than some of the shots I saw in there :-/

I agree, there seem to be a LOT of snapshots in this one.

I agree! In terms of this challenge, I feel there's a difference between candid snapshots of groups and posed snapshots that obviously make an attempt to look like a portrait, and I was voting according to that.

Quite noticeable, but it ain't easy being cheesy. There are some excellent portraits.
