Does anyone know a good book on Excel 2003?
I have a new hellish project at work.
I need to renovate the excel inventory pages we use at work and produce a database for the new website (in production). The web developer has given me the template. Many of the fields are repetitive
"11T15" "15" "T15"
"11T27" "27" "T27"
I want to merge the data in 2 columns, insert a few repetitive characters in front of some text, re arrange the sequence of columns...
I think it is all pretty standard, but I'm not quite getting it from the help files.
I work in a bead store and the site is going to have abut 15 or 20 different pages, each one 200-600 items. I really don't want to retype any more than I have to.
I am the only person in the building with any computer experience. So I have no back-up. Beginning to feel a little panicky. I'm dyslexic and really want to copy and paste and merge as much as possible.
The woman who started this project is no longer with the company, and wasn't very interested in sharing knoledge anyhow.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
Alice

Easy. Email me XLS file and I'll put formulas in. Put a bit more details on how you want columns to look.

Thanks for the offer.
My plan was to get recommendation on a good text and learn the program. If I make this work the boss will ask me to do more, so I need to know it anyhow. Plan to have him pay for a class later. |

It sounds like you might need a combination of the Concatenate function and the Left (or Right) function.
The key is to determine in advance the string length of your desired end point.
I can help you, and I'll be around on Tuesday. PM me for me detail. |

I told you that answer was wrong!!!!!
To keep your thread on subject though. The Excel Bible is an excellent reference to have.

I just want to thank everyone who offered to help me with excel.
I picked up a Teach Yourself Visually book and found what i needed.
I really appreciate the response as I was beginning to panic, mostly what I needed was to vent, all good now.
Thanks Alice |
