I know we can stack multiple exposures of the same image, but can we use gradients on the layers masks to reveal only portions of the image below/above?

Yes, you can use gradients the way you describe, as long as the final product (the submitted image) doesn't look totally different from the original picture. For example, you can't use the method to totally obliterate a background.

Absolutely. I've done it myself. As long as all the layers are from the same physical exposure (same shutter actuation). |
