... they featured my pic!

Some DPChallengers ought to submit some pics. They reach quite a wide audience and they'd certainly select some of the top work created by photographers here.

Original challenge photo. No more links now - I promise. ;)

I knew what this was about just from the thread title. :-)

Well done Jon - excellent shot. Shame it's a little on the small side. :-(

I've never really considered taking any news shots, I'll have to try and bear it in mind. Thanks for the link.

Congrats. I always like looking through the 'pics of the day' on the beeb site. They have such a homely, weird mix of the great, news worthy and the family album type shots all thrown together.

I don't think the shots they feature have to be particularly newsworthy - just interesting, worldly, dramatic or an unusual view on something topical.

Paul - sorry to be so predictable. ;)

I had one shot selected for 'The Big Picture' feature (normally a topical or striking shot) which is a lot better quality than their rather lower grade galleries.

Gordon, you're right about the eclectic mix of images - very diverse.

Thanks for the comments.

I have a question: how did you add the comment on your challenge photo after submission deadline, when the BBC page was created a month later? Is there a trick?

BTW, great capture.

Edit: Never mind, I found it in the portfolio.
