The color isn't painted on, its part of the plastic. So no matter how you treat them, pink is always pink! :)

JP recommends two 800's instead instead of 1-800 1-400, much quicker/easier to determine lighting ratios. And it's only fifty dollars .... :)
Plus JP likes to eliminate variables.
You'll lurve the foldable softbox :) |

Get two receivers (sometimes the slave doesn't pick up the other light), and consider a brolly box in place of the softbox. It's the same general principle, but cheaper and even more convenient. Plus, you get round catchlights. ;-) |

FWIW, you may not need the extra power of another B800, but the recycle times will be shorter. I have two B800's and a B400. Black.

I say 2 400's should be all the power you need.

For $50, wouldn't it be worth knowing you had as much as you may need rather than needing to spend another $280 when it turns out you didn't? And definitely black... |

My opine is two 800's, for simplicity not for power; I'm a simplicity simpleton ... with the operative being 'simpleton'.
Varying power is just one extra thing to keep track of but if you have a light meter you'll be easy peasy either way, the light meter will tell you what you need (if used properly).
Then again, if you're going to cry why not cry over even *more* money!!! It's easy for me to spend other people's money though :)
Anyone else want me to suggest things to buy?!?! :) |

I shot with a couple of 800's and couldn't turn them down low enough for what I was trying to do. But then I'm weird and shoot wide open all the time, so what do I know.

unless you are shooting at a fashion show and everyone has AB's I don;t see any need for the second receiver.

Good point. I commonly use ND filters for portraits for that very reason. |

are you sureee? because part of me doesn't want to buy another receiver if i don't need it and part of me doesn't want to have to go buy it later without the 10 % discount i get for buying it with the lights if i do need it....but i am only going to be using these inside without other crazy people around me with lights ever....but if i want to use them outside would the light outside effect the slave capability? |

Yes. Sometimes inside, too, if the slave sensor is pointed away from the other light. |

Yeah, I can't shoot wide open in my little studio room with the AB800s very well.
Edited to add: but if I was going to get two of the same thing, I'd get 2 800s rather than 2 400s. Although I guess it depends on what your longterm plan is.
