Depends on what you want to shoot? You don't mention what kind of telescope you have or what you want to shoot.

Typically, for dedicated astrophotography there are special CCD imagers that allow for long exposures and special image processing. You will also need a motorized drive for your scope.

Just a warning, astrophotography can be very expensive, time consuming, and can be very, very frustrating. You will not get results like what you see from NASA no matter what you do. Your best bets for info are to look for advice in amateur astronomy forums, find a local astronomy club and ask them. Usually most astronomy clubs will have at least a couple of members with deep pockets that are into astrophotography.

You'd do better with film if that's your price range, in all honesty.

I guess the other question we need is what type of telescope do you have?

Sorry I didnt read spazmo's post enough...he already asked that.

and to confirm what spaz said, astrophotography can be very hard to do and it can get very expensive to get a good set up.

but many long time CCD users ( the guys with the 4 and 5 thousand dollar CCD camras) have started to use web cams.

they are very light, very low cost and can do a good job.

go here Scopetronics and scroll down to the web cam link.

I have a Meade LX200GPS 10" that I use with my Canon D60. Here is a url that is to a goup at yahoo groups that is dedicated to Digital Astrophotography and will be able to answer any question you have about it.

Digital Astro

Be prepared to spend a very large amount of time in post processing.

Its fun and very challenging but is not easy in any way.
