Please overlook the trial watermarks. I'm trying different kinds of photography before I purchase Photomatrix.

I'd say yes. The newer one seems to have better balance.

Yep. The new edit is much easier on the eyes and not so abrupt between bg & fg.

i agree - the HDR is better. but I feel the foreground is now too muted. the background is much better and would likely have fared better in the bokeh challenge.

Hard to say, they both have good things. Who knows.

Is it a better image? In some ways yes, the new one brings out details in the flowers in front nicely, but the flowers look a bit muted; in the new one the background looks good, but in some ways it almost overemphasizes it. The new one has beautiful tones and the colours are warmer, but it has less depth than the original - the new one looks sort of flat compared to the old one.

IMO, something somewhere in between the two would be best, something where you manage to keep the feel of depth of the original yet also work at bringing out detail in the flowers and some of the beauty of the background.

Ditto Ursula's :)

I love the new background but don't like the flowers at all. They look 2-dimensional and almost opaque, like they're cutouts glued to a window in front of the gazebo. They've lost their vibrancy and life. :(
