I just ordered and picked up a remote shutter control, the type without a cord, for my 30D. I for the life of me cant figure out how to work it. There doesn't seem to be any button to press on my camera that will allow the remote to take control.

Can someone help me by pointing me in the right direction please?

on my rebel there is a button by the shutter button, when i press it it cycles between single,burst and timer on the display, the timer also shows a remote picture...hope that helps

One of my colleagues has the 30D and his remote has a cord that attaches to the camera. So does the one for my 40D.

What is the model number of the remote? There is a wireless remote for the 30D...but it is pricey. I think you may have been sold one for the rebel.

Harvey Norman ordered it specifically for my 30D and it cost me $50.00. It says Canon RC-1.

They have given you the wrong one...as per the information below from this page.

Did you buy it from Rocky?

If you have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel 300D, a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT 350D or another supported camera body, the Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote is a must-have accessory.

The RC-1 is small, light, inexpensive and highly useful. Point the Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote toward the front of the camera (line of sight only) and take full control the shutter. According to Canon: "This miniature infrared transmitter operates at ranges of up to 5m/16.4 ft., and may be set for either instant shutter release or 2-second delay. The RC-1 may also be used to activate mirror-lock and bulb-shutter functions."

Supported models include the Digital Rebel XT 350D, Digital Rebel 300D, Elan 7/7E, Elan II/IIE, Elan, IX, 10S, Rebel Ti (Date model only).

Yep, I bought it in Rocky. Back there tomorrow (in Gladstone at the moment), will bring it back and get them to get the correct one in. Thanks Judi, I've wasted hours trying to find out how it works.

No worries. Go and speak to Jarrod or Emrys and tell them I sent you. Also tell them if they don't do the right thing by you, then they will have me to deal with...!! If they laugh...just remind them about the handcuffs...they will understand then..lmao!!

I deal with Jarrod most of the time. He looks after me and gives me deals!! I will mention the handcuffs though.

The 300/350/400 have an IR receiver built into the camera, so you can use the RC-1 (and others) directly with the camera. I've heard that the 10/20/30/40D do not have this receiver built into the camera, and you have to have an exteral IR receiver to receive the signal and trigger the shutter via the cable plug. I know, this sounds crazy. I will see if I can find something official to back me up.

Some compatability listings for the RC-1. All include the 300/350, but none of them show the 30D

//www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-RC-1-Wireless-Remote-Review.aspx
//estore.usa.canon.com/Compatibility.asp?ITEM_ID=35721&PROD_NAME=Wireless+Remote+RC-1&DESC=+

I have a 3rd party wireless release, and it supports the 400D, but the 30D is only listed in the kit that comes with transmitter AND receiver. I don't think the RC-1 on it's own is gonna work with your 30D. Sorry. :(

If you want remote shutter, you could look at a radio release. I have the Twin-1 IR release, and I'm pretty happy with it, but it's line of sight to the receiver. Behind the camera doesn't work without a reflector of some sort, and the lens also shadows the IR receiver if you're on the wrong side of the camera. A radio trigger wouldn't have this problem and I think GadgetInfinity make a reasonable priced radio trigger, TX and RX.
