I had a few minutes today to capture my first photos with my new Canon EOS 40D and the Canon 28-135mm F3.5-5.6 EF IS USM lens. The camera feels really good in my hands, but I'm still getting used to the buttons and menus.

The IS in this particular lens seems to be very good. Both photos were shot handheld. The first was at 1/15 sec. The second was at 1/30 sec.

Cool shots, interesting architecture. Is that grain in the second one on the foreground statue, or just the paint job?

Nice! Les, if you get a chance while you are downtown San Jose, get a shot of the front of the 12 story building at 28 North First Street from the front and include the first floor windows. Used to work down there many years back and am just curious.

Congrats on the new camera - looks like it's gonna work out great for you.

edit: correction on the address.

Thanks. Yeah, the paint almost looks like a matte finish on shiny metal.

edit: corrected misspelling

I'll try to get by there this week. Is this the general area?...

No, but I will send you $10 if you get a shot of Woody in front of the building. :)

One problem...I usually don't travel with Woody. How about a hobo? ;-)

Well unless things have changed since I was down there, that would be WAY too easy. ;-)

I wasn't aware you were traveling - I see. Well I'll be happy with whatever you come up with. :)

I've tried aversion therapy, shock therapy and that mantra in my signature - it's no use. Nothing works. 40D 40D 40D 40D 40D 40D 40D 40D 40D
