Actual category description from a local competition:
Nature: Birds, which are warmblooded,
feathered, egg-laying vertebrate
animals having fore limbs
modified as wings. Chickens or
other domesticated fowl are not eligible
for competition in this category,
nor are they eligible in the nature
division.
I think we need this writer to review some of ours! |

Does that mean if a chicken takes a very good picture of a hummingbird, it can't enter the photo into the competition? That smacks of discrimination.... ;-) |

It gives new meaning to the phrase "chicken out".
They have to lay eggs too, which means only female birds. Definitely discriminatory.
Can you modify the forelegs, or do they have to be pre-modified?

For a while there I was writing some challenge descriptions and you guys were complaining they were too long and precise :-) If you want someone to do that job, I'm your man.
R.
PS, I'm surprised they didn't include pigeons on the no-no list, and seagulls :-) Too easy...

but gotta admit - the description is informative and detailed enough as not to create confusion to both submitters and voters. helps in post-voting arguments. |

Of course, there's a wishy washy "or other domesticated fowl" stuck in there... Will that exclude a Macaw born in captivity? But a wild Macaw would be fine? We need a ruling on this, or my name isn't Mr. Macawber jejejeâ¢
