So I get these wonderful ideas, and when gathering up materials for the photo shoot to find out why no one has done it before.

Sigh, why can't it be easy?

Anyone else run into this problem?

Yes, I know what you mean. You have to make the camera lie. :) scalvert does it all the time. For example, I loved how he turned this;

into this;

And all without going to the trouble of buying an actual magic carpet.

If it was easy it wouldn't be a "challenge." :-)

I should have taken a shot of my setup for a recent challenge.

I took over the bathroom, because it's the easiest small space to get dark without cramming myself in a closet. I had a black towel covering the window that kept falling down. I had another towel covering the toilet as my backdrop. I had 2 pieces of thread hanging from the ceiling and one tied to the towel rack. My subject STILL would not stop spinning and moving, so I eventually gave up on that. I had incense burning in there too, because I was trying to get some smoke in the shot, but it didn't show up. Probably because I don't have a real flash, and was using a tiny pen flash light. All I accomplished with the incense was filling the room full of pretty smelling smoke and giving myself a headache.

Then my boyfriend wakes up and has to pee, so I have to pack up and move out for a few minutes.

I eventually got something workable, but damn I want a real studio or something.

LOL! Sounds very similar to what I went through to get this mediocre 4.7 shot;

If there's one piece of equipment that'll change your life it's a decent external flash (assuming you've already got a tripod) - It'll help keep your setups simple. If you're messing about with thread, blu-tac, sheets of paper, paperclips, and lightbulbs/torches then there are just too many things that can go wrong.

Chester Cheetah once said, "It's not easy being cheesy."

Yup there are times I wish I could borrow his brain to work out the constant kinks I sometimes run into.

LOL, yeah but I would love to have the Staples 'Easy' button at my disposal:-)

It's done, it's done, it's done, it's done, it's done! Not exactly what I want but let's see what suggestions the jury out there has.
