Looking for a MAC geek here,
I have started editing my images on a mac.
I use bridge to convert from a CR2 file to a TIFF.
This works well and i like it, BUT...
I can't seem to preview the CR2 files before i open them in bridge.
Does anyone know of a program that will alow me to do this?
I used to use rawshooter on my PC which allowed me to look at all the shots and choose which to convert. I liked this
Needs to be freeware as i'm skint at the moment.
Any help?

Thanks

Kev

I use Canon Digital Professional Pro (DPP) to browse my .CR2 files, do initial selection and then perform a basic color balance and levels adjustment. From there convert to a TIFF or go straight to photoshop (which just uses a TIFF in a temporary space). So far I prefer the conversions in DPP to those in photoshop. I've heard capture one software is very good, but a little pricey compared to DPP which is free.

Which version of Photoshop are you using? Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Camera RAW installed and you should be able to preview your CR2 files before converting them. As a last resort you can always preview the CR2 files in the Apple Finder using Preview.

You can use iPhoto, it previews RAW just fine. I use iPhoto to preview and organize my images. I set a preference in iPhoto to use PhotoShop as the editing tool.

You can preview .CR2 files in Apple's Preview, which comes with OSX.

GraphicConverter is also a very popular shareware tool that does all sorts of image editing, and it works quite well as a viewing/sorting tool too.

I do something similar to this with jpg's and edit using Graphic Converter. By doing the preview, and sort in iPhoto. I can size the thumbs up to do the initial elemination, then rate the rest using the "rating" feature in the "photos" dropdown to sort down to the best few before beginning editing. The "rating" makes it easy to find the best again later if I am searching thru small thumbs of a scene that does not change much between a large number of images.

This is definetley what you should look into. Whether Mac or Pc you can certainly preview raw files using photoshop/bridge. Go to the Adobe website and find the downloads for Photoshop. Download the latest Camera Raw update to your computer. You will then have to locate the original camera raw already on your computer and replace it. It will be located somewhere in the adobe program files. This should take care of the problem.

Press that Big Apple on the Right upper part of your screen, then Software Update and upgrade your system software. :)

You'll find your Camera Raw.plugin here: (Macintosh HD >)Library >Application Support >Adobe >Plugins >CS3 >File Formats

I recently downloaded Photoshop-Lightroom 30 day trial because it works with Olympus RAW files. It is quite intuitive and I use it in conjunction with iPhoto. iPhoto cannot deal with Olympus RAW files from the E-510. Hope this helps.

i am not a mac geek by any stretch but I preview shots in bridge, have you gone under " view " and then tried the various ones I prefer filmstrip, but thumbnails is ok too
you may just want to try a few of those out.

but perhaps I am misunderstanding what you are wanting to do

I just looked at Apple's website and your camera is listed as usable in RAW by iPhoto in 10.3.9 and newer. If you are wanting to look at the images and choose then I cannot give you better advice. I am guessing you have iLife 06 on the Mac.
